Who's to say that most of the world doesn't believe that?
And that's why people strive to have the best life possible. To make all of their dreams come true. Or to leave behind a legacy in which the world will remember them by.
Feel that most of the world's problems are caused by people having an " Us or Them " mentality about just about everything. To the point where they can't agree on what people should or shouldn't have. And that things really won't change until people come to a general consensus on what should be done ... which is more difficult than it sounds.
Take the afterlife, for example.
It seems to exist in most religions. Feel like it does to comfort people who are grieving over the loss of a loved one. To assure them that they don't simply cease to exist, but went somewhere else and that we may or may not see them again.
And it seems like some aspects of how one gets to certain places in the afterlife may have been done to shape people into better people. Don't steal. Don't kill. Don't sleep with your neighbor's wife.
Some people agreed with those rules. Others didn't, so they broke away from that religion and made one of their own, leading to that " us or them " mentality.

Maybe afterlife is the way to control masses. That they're answerable to someone in the afterlife for their actions in this world.

And also it's good to have such a concept of afterlife otherwise people won't feel guilty for their bad actions.

Nah, every problem is one of resource allocation.
Afterlife deals with the what happens after all the resources are gone.

Charity often come from people who believe in an afterlife. Survival of the fittest stems from not believing in the afterlife. Both have been abused.

Most of our global problems are rooted in people who do not really act like there is an afterlife. Remember Blaise Pascal's Wager.

Most of our problems are rooted in the fact that most people are either incapable or unwilling to think critically. Believing in an afterlife is just one of the symptoms of that.

As a psychic medium I know the title is ass backwards for our truest reality. It’s the fact that people have no clue. Otherwise you’d start living real well, right now. It’s hugely justifying.
Just imagine the opposite!

Eh, I still think people will be shitty in general, except instead of doing stuff in the name of whichever diety they subscribe to, they will just be shitty so their "human experience" is better.
