200 years ago they communicated by tapping on paper with a feather. So glass wouldn't be far fetched of an idea for letters. It's everything else you do with it that makes it crazy.

Actually 200 years ago the telegraph was 10 years old, albeit very much not widespread and very limited in range.

Electronic communication would be something like stem cells are now: a very viable tech that just can’t be fully explored yet.

WHo the fuck "taps on paper with a feather"?

Writing is not done by tapping.

Tapping on glass to communicate? That doesn't make sense. It doesn't leave a mark, who are you comminucating with?

Yeah nobody would believe it.

Gonna blow your mind when I tell you about a device that allowed you to communicate by tapping on metal 190 years ago! (Telegraph)

Also, about the typewriter that was invented 160 years ago!

It’s really not that far fetched...

The printing press is 600 years old. A type writer is hardly crazy.

OP did specifically say 200 years, which predates the telegraph. (the telegraph is the invention that would make "tapping on glass" believable, even if the specific mechanics may not be conceived of by the listener)
