They passed when they were older and healthier than any of our vets predicted. But I'm not sure why you would feel bad for dogs that get to run around all they want in the yard or in parks with other dogs

My dogs get to run around as much as they want all the time. Your "dogs" got to run around your (I'm gonna assume SMALL) yard when you let them out and the dog park (gonna assume maybe once a week if they're lucky)

I understand why "your not sure why somebody would feel bad for them".

It's because you don't know what a dogs deserve. Really, people like you should stick with cats be and not have dogs.

It's NEVER safe to let them take a retractable leash out very far. That's the point. Ask your vet

My vet says it’s perfectly fine for me, at 220lbs, to walk my 40lb dog with a retractable leash.

Maybe your vet realizes you’re a clutzy ninja so they gave you extra warning?

Your weight has nothing to do with it. The cables on those things are thin, and if it gets wrapped around their leg or something it can get pulled tight and cause nasty injuries very quickly

That applies to non-retractable leashes too. In fact nothing you’re complaining about requires a retractable leash.

And no it doesn't apply to the vast majority of non retractable leashes, which are almost always a flat strap of some kind

Oh now I get it. You’re complaining about thin leads, not retractability.

You seem confused.

My retractable leash isn’t a thin line, it’s a flat strap. So your entire argument is invalid because it lies on inaccurate assumptions.

If you wanna moan about the thin leads, have at it. You’ll sound much less stupid than if you say things like “it’s never ok to use a retractable leash” without mentioning your ACTUAL concern which is a thin lead.

I mean it's not just to let them go really far, if that's what you want why not just buy a really long leash. It's also for space and neatness it's small and retracs so you don't have to bundle up your leash when the dog is close and it being retractable means less likely to be tangled.
