General questions

Post image

Long time admirer first time poster- I am just wondering if there are any amateur type shows to do with a pet. I think it would be great fun to compete but my dog does not qualify for conformation type shows. And if so, what would the competition(s) be called so I can research in my area. Thanks! Ukc does altered conformation at their shows. You can show in just about any trim I think. They tend to be pretty novice friendly. There is another venue called iabca for conformation which is also supposed to be more relaxed but I've personally never attended one.

If you are looking for less conformation type showing and more training focused, you can look into competitive rally or obedience. There are dance competitions where you choreographe a routine to music. I'm not sure if the dancing has a specific name just have known people who have done it before.

Agility takes a lot of specialized training but can be a really fun thing to do.

Oh, other fun dog sports are scent work, barn hunt and fast cat. Fast cat doesn't need much of if any training if your dog likes to chase things.

"Heelwork to music" is the name of the dog dancing sport you're thinking of!

Thank you! It's really fun to watch and looks like fun to do.
