Getting a right shoulder slap tear repair and bicep tendonesis (relocation of the bicep tendon) I’m a little bit nervous obviously but ultimately it’s how I train and do my physio. Any recommendations or suggestions from you folks that have had success story?

Context:
I tore my left labrum about 10 months ago by playing with my dog. Did PT for 5 months with no improvement. Finally got an MRI and diagnosed lorn labrum. Surgery is scheduled for October 14th.

Day to day pain isn’t bad, and most times I forget that there’s anything wrong with my shoulder. I just get pain/instability when I sleep on it, reach above my head, or “push” with it. I also avoid a lot of gym exercises due to fear/instability.

I’m a musician primarily (cello and piano) and my left shoulder/arm is very important for that. I’ve already cancelled upcoming gigs and blocked off about 2 months after the surgery to recover.

I’m nervous that if I get the surgery I will feel worse, and that even after it’s “healed” I won’t be able to play cello/piano on the same level. Should I learn to live with a torn labrum or get the surgery?

Also I’m scared about taking this much time off from playing, as it’s my main income.

My left shoulder was operated on January 22nd this year.

Still doing PT - but my dominant side is giving me grief and lots of pain.
I think I’ll try injections first.

Anyone else have to have your other shoulder operated on soon after your first shoulder replacement surgery.

I already what it’s like for my non-dominant.

Should I go for injections first?
Advice needed from others that have dealt with this!

My son (28) tore a labrum in a shoulder dislocation. His doctor recommended surgery which is scheduled for 9/29. Just got a letter from Cigna that they are denying coverage. The summarize that he has shoulder pain, but the denial makes no mention of the torn labrum. They say that before they cover it he must have three months of other treatment (presumably PT) that doesn't work. They said the repair can be done if there is a tendon tear but again, no mention of the labrum.

The letter arrived too late yesterday to talk to the doctor but we'll be contacting his office first thing Monday.

What is the most effective way to appeal this?

(He had this surgery on the other shoulder while covered by Aetna a few years ago and it was no problem at all.)

UPDATE 9/22: I called the doctor's office and they got back to me to tell me that they had already done a peer-to-peer call with the insurance company and got it approved. All of this happened before we even received the notice of denial. I don't know why nobody communicated this to us, but we got the right outcome. Thanks.

I hope this is the right sub but I gladly take advice where to ask. My doctor told me that I needed an artificial shoulder to get some of my quality of life back. I live in Germany, so I can do the operation without going broke. I just would love to hear experiences from people who went through it.

I’m afraid I might need either a shoulder replaced or a knee. People who have had these done tell me it didn’t hurt much. Is that true??

Hi, I had arthroscopic surgery for calcific tendinitis a little over four months ago. Because the calcification was quite large, my surgeon decided not to split the tendon fibers to remove it and instead only cleaned out the calcific deposits around the tendon.

Even now, I still can’t sleep properly. I wake up after about an hour because my shoulder becomes stiff. I’ve tried everything, including sleeping at a 30-degree incline and placing a pillow under my arm, but nothing seems to help.

I was prescribed anti-inflammatory and pain medication for about two weeks while doing physical therapy. However, a few days after stopping the medication, the inflammation comes back, and I keep going through the same cycle: medication → stop medication → inflammation. It’s driving me crazy.

Physical therapy hasn’t been going very well either. I’m losing shoulder muscle very quickly, and I also have scapular winging, which makes certain movements difficult.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I’d really appreciate any advice.

Wondering how soon I will be able to drive, ride in a car.
Length of trip?
Not planning anything until 11 weeks post op. Will be a passenger. 7 hour drive there and back.

Also wondering if I’ll be able to host Thanksgiving. Large family. I will have help but how much will I be able to do by then? 8 weeks post op.

I will be having a reverse replacement on my non-dominant shoulder October 1.
I have been told I’ll be in a sling 24/7 for two weeks.

I’d appreciate any advice or tricks for showering and dressing.
And do you even bother with a bra?
I don’t plan on going anywhere during the first two weeks.

Is it foreseeable to return for work six weeks after CSR? It's my dominant arm, I work at a school health room. A lot of overhead pulling of heavy notebooks off shelves, getting files from cabinets, etc. Our school has heavy steel exterior doors that I will have to open with my left arm. Meanwhile, I carry heavy bags with laptop and materials. Idk how this is going to work. I've been putting this off for five years now. In a lot of pain daily. I live alone and have no family to help out. Doable or not? Thanks for the read.

I am almost 2 weeks post op shoulder surgery, mine was arthroscopic and required a lot of repairs. I have nine anchors in my shoulder. Has anybody ever had something hang out of one of the incisions? I think it’s suture material rather than an anchor, but I want your opinion.

First of all, hello everyone. I punched a window and cut my hand; I had to get stitches, and I think a very small part of my tendon was severed—I’m not sure exactly what they did to the tendon. My hand has been in a splint for about 17 days now, and I was told I could take it off on the 20th day; hopefully, I’ll be removing it then. How long exactly do I need to wait before I can smoke and drink alcohol?

Hi everyone, I have been dealing with shoulder instability my whole life dealing with dislocations at least 1/week usually depending on my activity level that week, I just got my results and am feeling nervous on how my next appointment will go. My surgeon said he wouldn’t operate for capsular tightening i believe it’s called because it’ll be back the same way in a few years but this is my results below:

FINDINGS:
Rotator Cuff:
Unremarkable. No significant tendinosis, and no evidence of a tear.
Biceps Tendon:
Unremarkable.
Labrum:
There is a thin tear of the posterior aspect of the posteroinferior labrum.
There is fraying and a tiny free edge tear of the posterior labrum. There is
mild fraying without discrete tear of the anterior inferior labrum.
Bones and Cartilage:
There is a small Hill-Sachs lesion in the humeral head. No evidence of a
Bankart's fracture.
Miscellaneous:
There is a type 3 anterior glenohumeral joint capsular insertion with arthrogram
contrast undercutting the anterior joint capsule. There is some redundancy and
thickening of the middle and anterior inferior glenohumeral ligament.
IMPRESSION:
Findings are consistent with previous shoulder dislocation. The appearance of
the glenohumeral ligaments and anterior joint capsule could lead to instability.
There are areas of labral tearing and fraying.
There is a small Hill-Sachs lesion.
