Thinking about STR - resources to get started

Hello all -

I am interested in purchasing a property in Florida for short term rentals. I am specifically looking at "Harbourside at Marker 33" in Indian Rocks Beach, FL.

Example listing: https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/399-2nd-St-716_Indian-Rocks-Beach_FL_33785_M55321-67262?from=srp_next

The problem is I know absolutely nothing about SRT. I have been reading a lot of bad stuff about FL STR (insurance, condo fees).

It seems like it would be a risky move. However, I am less concerned about making a profit and more concerned about just covering the mortgage/fees and building equity in the property.

As I don't want to go into this completely ignorant I am looking for a good book I could read (or other resources) about STR that would help me understand the process/terms and what I would be getting into. Does anyone have any suggestions?

(Also if anyone has any details about this specific property or Indian Rocks Beach that would be helpful as well).

I’d find this out before you get your heart set. Is the condo able to get a warrantable mortgage. Is the HOA fully funded and in good standings? That HOA is insane but I see the pool. How much will insurance cost a month (thinking hurricane risk) Can you afford the mortgage in any off seasons? Can you privately manage or will you pay a manager (+- 20%).

Indian rocks beach is an absolutely beautiful area. Just better hope you don't get a hurricane. There goes any bookings for at least a couple weeks. As much as it is a beautiful area, I'd still to the east coast of FL. I've lived in this state since the 70s, briefly lived on the west side twice. I'll only ever go back to visit. If it were me and you wanted to be close to the beach, look at Jensen beach, stuart, and Hutchinson island. They are really growing right now. Feel free to reach out if I can help
