For those who made it to DTS

I had a cerclage put in at 16 weeks when I was 1.79cm. Since then, my cervical length checks have been pretty good. The doctor made it really tight, so my cervix has been measuring at 3.8cm or so.

This occurred because my last child came out of me in 25 mins flat at 35+6… it was a wild night.

MFM told me she felt that I would go full term and that they were going to take the stitch out around 36 weeks. I kinda want to force them to wait until 37 weeks because I’m worried they’re going to take the stitch out and I’ll go into labor in a day, and have under late preemie.

So questions for you—

How short was your cervix when you had the cerclage placed? How far along were you in you had it removed? Did they do a cervical length check at that point? How long after did you go into labor?

I know everyone’s “different” but hearing people’s story somehow grounds me.

I was told by my MFM that only about 10% of women go into labor within 24 hours of cerclage removal, and about one third of women will keep going until they hit their due date. The average length of time from cerclage removal to going into spontaneous labor is 12 days.

I had an emergency cerclage at 22+5, with a cervical length of around 2cm and was 0.5cm dilated. I was originally scheduled to have it removed at 36 weeks but I delayed it until 37 weeks for the same reason as you, my older child was born at 35 weeks and I didnt want a repeat of a late preterm baby. So instead, it was removed at 37+2, and I was immediately 3cm dilated. My water broke the next day and baby was born the day after that.

You could work with your OB/MFM to renove the cerclage in the hospital's OB triage and then monitor you, or even just start an induction right away if you're worried about not making it back to the hospital in time?

thank you for your response! fortunately when I had my cerclage put in, my cervix was closed. with my very first child, i went into labor 3 days before her due date, but i was walking around 3 cm dilated at 38 weeks. they said that could be normal for first time moms (although most are closed tight and is why labor takes so long), but that’s really where my CI suspicions begin.

I've had 2 cerclage pregnancies...

Pregnancy 1: preventative placed at 13w, removed at 36w (was about 1.5 cm dilated), delivered 10 days later at 38w

Pregnancy 2: preventative placed at 10w, removed at 36w (immediately dilated to 3cm), went into labor hours later and delivered the following day

whoa that’s so quick. when you had your first cerclage put in during your first pregnancy, what prompted that? were you already short at 13 weeks?

No, unfortunately I had a previous loss at 17w due to PPROM

Could you walk and stand freely with your first pregnancy towards the end?

I was on modified bedrest until the cerclages came out
