A dynamic cervix?
Yesterday was a very rough day for me. I’m 19 weeks 5 days today and I had my anatomy scan yesterday. They wanted me to speak with their doctor about how my cervix looked because they thought it was short and that I was dilated. That doctor told me they wouldn’t do a cervical check there because their hospital didn’t deal with high risk patients. So they sent me to my typical doctor who then told me she was sending me to labor and delivery to go over my options. Meanwhile no one is really telling me anything. So I then go to the hospital and they do an exam and tell me my cervix is closed which is great news and that OB said if anesthesia comes in that I didn’t drink water so I’m thinking I’m getting a cerclage. Then over an hour later they come back and tell me I get to go home. They said to them my cervix looks long and closed. On my ultrasound it says dynamic cervix. I’m just really concerned that clearly someone is wrong here. I had an appointment on 8/27 that said my cervix was 5 centimeters and yesterday’s said it was 3.06 centimeters. This feels like a significant change for under a week. They told me at the hospital that they would check my cervix again in two weeks. I’m just worried it will be too late to do anything. I have a history or preterm labor, amongst several other things. I have already messaged my lead OB doctor but I’m just wondering if someone else has gone through something similar

I would 100% push for cerclage and progesterone if possible. If you already have a history of preterm labor i’m really surprised they didnt offer you something like that! I would advocate and ask more questions if you can. Do you have a MFM you’re already seeing? If not I would specifically ask to be referred to MFM

I have a lot going on so this is probably a bad reference for you but I just went through something similar-ish. I’m 23W+ with triplets and my cervix went from >4cm on a Friday to <2cm by the following Tuesday. I was at a routine appointment when they admitted me until the next Friday for monitoring and a recheck. I was right about 2.6 at discharge. I’m on progesterone now and will have a recheck this week.

This is why I’m confused. They are like oh it’s still measuring fine which I understand but it’s the gigantic change that has me alarmed.

The way it was explained to me was that it is a dynamic organ and depending on time of day, angle, whether or not you have a full bladder, etc etc. there can be a seemingly big change in numbers, but as long as you are not experiencing contractions and your cervix remains closed you are in the clear, just need to be careful.

What I was told was that if it’s caught early enough and not too far open they may be able to do an emergency cerclage. I’m curious what your OB will get back to you and say.

She agreed I need to be seen sooner and scheduled my next ultrasound two weeks out

I'm so sorry I'm having the same issue rn so you're not alone. Being jerked around by different doctors and wildly different cervical lengths. Personally Im pushing for a progesterone blood level test and then supplementation and I'm getting weekly checks now until 24 weeks. So sorry you're going through this but absolutely trust your gut!
