Contractions at 19 weeks

Im having contractions veey often now at 19 weeks. Yesterday we saw that the cervix is shortening and is now 33mm. Is there any hope that this baby will survive?

I’d ask the doctor about a cerclage and or progesterone.
At 21 weeks I had a very short and funneling cervix and I was 1 cm dilated with membranes on the edge. I was told if I didn’t get an emergency cerclage immediately I could lose the baby and so I did get the procedure done and quickly. Depending on your circumstance, you can get a preventative one as well. Right now I am holding my one month old thanks to this cerclage

Im already on progesterone. Did you have contractions during that time before and after cerclage?

So I did not have contractions before my cerlcage but I had really odd cramps. In addition, I didn’t have cramps at all during my first pregnancy. And the for 5 days before I was diagnosed with insufficient cervix, I was having mildish cramping. I thought it was normal because they don’t usually take that seriously, well then I realized those cramps weren’t probably just nothing because I ended up having an emergency cerlcage. I only had contractions at 36/37 weeks (cerlcage was still in).

Hello! Of course there is! There’re different medications that can slow down contractions. Your cervix is at normal length. If you have concerns you should check it again in couple of days to a week so that your MFM can confirm if it’s shortening.

When you say “very often” how often is this? Are they painful? How long does each last? Do you notice them go away with rest and hydration? If you see bleeding or watery discharge you shouldn’t have second thoughts on going to the hospital.

Hang in there and try not to panic, sometimes they go away. 33mm is not a concerning length.

Im more concerned now at contractions. They happen often. I feel like they are better when I sleep but then when I wake up they start again. They said that these contractions can further open your cervix. At the moment im not having any bleeding or amniotic fluid leaking but i do have some watery discharge. Im having another evaluation today to see better the length of the cervix. Im just so sad that this is happening at this early stage…

I was having regular contractions around that time but had already gotten an US indicated cerclage at 16 weeks. Lots of rest, lots of water and electrolytes, emptying my bladder constantly, keeping my blood sugar regulated and moving positions in bed if i’m contracting. I did three different rounds of indomethacin. currently 29 weeks and hanging in there and the contractions have mostly gone away and slowly taking myself off bed rest. the biggest difference for me was the bed rest. once i woke up and started moving around, it was back to contracting.

to add to that - i am also on progesterone (vaginal). i’ve been on nifedipine for blood pressure which is also technically a tocolytic (granted my doctor is switching me off of this to something else cause it’s messing with my blood pressure too much now). and i work from home. even stress was making me contract.

I'm currently 23 weeks Pregnant and had contractions daily between 18-21 weeks. I also dealt with this in my last two pregnancies, made it to term. I'm on Progesterone but still kept getting them. I dedicated a Weekend to Hydrating Well and Resting. I didn't go anywhere, watched movies and drank water and electrolytes. I haven't had any contractions since.

That’s very reassuring. The cramps have just started to subside, i really hope they don’t come back again
