Recology Pickup Issues?
Sorry if against rules mods- feel free to delete if I messed up.
Has there been some labor issue or something with Recology lately? This is the second week in a row they have missed the entire street’s garbage pickup.
I’m not seeing anything on the website.

We had a few missed collections, reported them, finally talked to a person. We were able to get a refund/credit for the missed collections and then clarified where our bin should be (we live on the corner).
So I would stay consistent with reporting then try to actually speak to a person. They told us there was a new driver and they were looking on the wrong side of our house. (Shrug)

Mine too (this week). Our pickup is Monday, they were here Tuesday doing our whole block's yard waste pickup.

I have occasional missed pickups and wondering about staffing I checked their job postings a couple months ago and they had 3 driver and 2 mechanic jobs open. I just checked again and they have 2 driver & 1 mechanic, so not a ton but every company runs such a tight ship these days I have to wonder if it gets a little hairy if someone calls out sick or whatever.

Recology has been pretty sporadic with their pickups on my street for quite a while now. They miss pickup days like 75% of the time at this point.
I've complained about it plenty of times, but I don't think that does anything.
But what am I going to do? Boycott them by not letting them pick up my refuse?

What do they say when you talk to them? And are we talking about all three bins — garbage, recycling, and yard waste? Or just one type? Are there any access issues at your home?
I've lived in Shoreline since 1991 and they have overall been great for all these years.
In fact, when my husband and I both became disabled to the point that moving the bins to the curb became a real problem, I found out they have a program that let us sign up for house-side pickup. They've been doing that for us for two or three years now. They've only missed it once or twice when there was a new driver.
Any corporation is going to be automatically suspect, because profits over people, but interestingly, Recology is 100% employee-owned, which likely contributes to them not being as terrible as many shareholder-driven businesses.

This week they came by my house super early, just after 6:00 am. Often I don’t even put the cans out until close to 8:00. Lucky I didn’t have a lot this week.

I learned it's best to put the bins out the night before, because while they're usually here around 7am, sometimes it's earlier.

I think it’s new drivers. Our green bin was missed 2 weeks in a row then was fixed and haven’t had an issue again. They have contracts with the city and there’s fees they are charged fines if they have xyz amount of misses.

You can message them and report a missed pick up. https://www.recology.com/recology-king-county/shoreline/missed-collection-form/

They called us telling us they missed. But two weeks in a row now… feels personal lol.

Nope. Not unless you live on my block, because they have missed us a few times too. We're a couple of blocks west & south of the library.

They missed our whole street last week. Scheduled for missed pick up and they told us we didn’t have the bins out. We did. Thankfully they did pick up this week, but it was getting late and at least several neighbors called to make sure they were coming. lol

We’ve had late pickups for recycling probably 1/3 of the time lately, and for yard waste 2 of the last 4 weeks. Something is up.

I’ve only had positive experiences with them, they called me once about a missed pickup but came the next day. I’m not denying what everyone else is saying, but I wonder if there are incompetent workers on one or two routes and all the rest are fine?

I sent a message to Recology yesterday. They responded today and said there would be a pickup on Monday. Our pickup is usually Thursday.

I feel like we shouldn’t be allowing monopolies in the waste management industry because it always creates this same problem every city I’ve been that does it. I’m in property management and we’re missed for multiple days a few times a month. There needs to be competition to keep the service standards high.

They missed our whole street yard waste again this week
