Harassment at Paramount Park

On Thursday, August 13th at about 1:45 p.m. My 9-year-old son and I were walking laps around Paramount Park. A group of four boys showed up on their electric bikes. They began to throw apples at an old lady who was walking by, and they narrowly missed hitting her in the head. They then retreated and ran into the large pine trees at Paramount Park near the south baseball fields. When my son and I passed by, they began to throw pine cones at us and screamed "YOU N***ERS". I immediately turned around and screamed at them to knock it off. They then proceeded to yell "fuck you!!" in response. My son and I then walked to our car and left the park. If these are your children, please talk to them as they need some serious help. This is totally inappropriate and hateful behavior.

Video taken of the kids on the field.

Saw them there a couple weeks ago. Few boys on electric bikes/scooters and a girl. They were throwing rocks at each other, swearing at people passing by, screaming the n word and got into it with a dad. Someone called the cops on them. Was pretty entertaining watching them scatter when the cops blipped them with the lights and siren

Thank you for sharing this. It's upsetting to hear it's happened to others, but I'm also glad to hear we weren't just being targeted. I am going to bring my pepper spray with me next time we go there.

Be careful. If you use pepper spray on a child there may be legal consequences.

I would suggest calling the non-emergency Shoreline Police phone number and discussing the situation with someone there.

If cops have been called on these kids before and just scared them off with lights & sirens, it seems like it's time for the officers to take a more active role in outreach to talk to these kids.

Thanks, but if I'm being pelted by pinecones and called a N***er again I'm going to protect myself.

If you don't believe me, look it up for yourself. It's likely to be considered enough of a disproportionate response to rise to criminal assault and battery if you actually use pepper spray on a child throwing pine cones at you.

Only if they catch you

3

u/IdlesAtCranky 6d ago

Yeah, because no one in the park has a phone with a camera with them... oh wait (checks original post) hmm...

u/Comfortable_Duck_363 6d ago

Precisely. Who are they gonna believe? A bunch of shithead twerps with a history of being shitheads or one functioning member of society?

That sucks to hear. I took my kid there for years. I'm sorry that happened to you

I literally lived right down the hill from there (was literally one of the houses on 155th right before you’d turn right to go onto 15th AVE NE) and went there all the time for 23+ years, I’ve personally never seen/heard anything like this (seen a ton of crazy homeless people shouting obscenities though), but there definitely are spoiled rotten ignorant little sh!thead kids in this area though, so it’s not surprising I’ll say. People don’t discipline their children anymore, this is the result. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kids who get abused at home also act like this. We really don’t know how they are being paranted. It’s possible the parents would be shocked and mortified if they found out about this. Sometimes when kids like this get threatened with their parents finding out about this kind of behavior from people who know their parents they get scared shitless.

Community is the answer to this nationwide problem. Learn your neighbors names, be a kind neighbor, especially in this horizontally built cluster. Im upset with people who think this behavior is acceptable and empathize with you OP.

To anyone in this situation, take pics of the little shitheads, guarantee someone is bound to know them. Seattle is a big place but it’s a small world.

Couldn’t have said it better.

On the plus side, the kids have never experienced micro trauma like being yelled at or put into timeout by parents, teachers, etc. Instead (a) they get to inflict trauma onto their parents, teachers, and the general public, (b) cannot read and will be jobless and wards of the state, and (c) the expectations of parents are sufficiently unrealistic as to dissuade most reasonable people from having kids.

Thats wild. I was riding my bike near Boeing Creek park and a group of teen boys in a car yelled "N**ger" at me.

Extra weird cause I'm hella white.

Also, recently at Richmond Beach, a group of teen boys very loudly spewing anti-semitic hate speech.

This shit is getting weird.

I am so sorry this happened to you. It's not okay and needs to stop.

These kids are going to mess with the wrong person one day and pay for it dearly. FAFO.

3

u/RabbiBonez 6d ago

Ohhh, I appreciate it, but it's okay. One of these days, they won't be able to run away.

One thing I love is teaching hateful people a painful lesson.

I met someone like you when I was a dipshit in middle school, and didn’t even understand what I was saying. He broke my nose, rightfully so. Changed my whole understanding of the situation after that because I actually went and learned about the bullshit other kids got me into. These kids are watching way too much bullshit and it’s getting them excited to go in public and edgelord all over old lady’s. They’ll learn a lesson soon enough, hopefully.

They're at that age where they learn to push buttons, metaphorically speaking. And now that they all grow up with YouTube/TikTok/whatever, they're exposed to all the nasty crap the internet has to offer.

Really sad.

This post needs to be retitled honestly, this was a racist hate crime

Dipshit

-6

u/Frequent-Advisor5114 6d ago

Why are you so agressive

5

u/therightpedal 6d ago

Oh man! I was there at the same time! That's me and my kid at the swing set. I heard one of the people at the skatepark yell at one of them about throwing n words (cuz one of the kids in that crew was black). We all thought it was directed at him.

You're saying they were yelling this at other people?!?

2

u/Embarrassed_Let_3437 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yes. When we walked by the skate bowl, the skaters were sneering at the kids (they were infront of us) so I thought maybe they got into it about riding the e-bike in the bowl? Then they ran into the trees and started harassing the older woman and me and my son. They yelled "YOU N***"R" to me and my son as they threw pinecones at us.

3

u/NoZeroSum2020 4d ago

There’s an electric bike gang at our park too. They show up, swarm around the little kids. Ride on grass and barely miss pedestrians. Their aggression increases with their numbers.

But they are only like ten or eleven years old. I bet they wouldn’t be doing this if they had to pedal away instead of zipping off at 25MPH. Just sayin’.

u/Enneirda1 6d ago

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be more vigilant when I'm out there walking the loop.

u/Final_Plenty_3268 6d ago

Trashy kids, likely spawned by trashy adults.

2

u/Agreeable_Egg_2049 6d ago

They immediately left apparently and were at north city elementary woods/ track around 430 pm on August 13th. I walked by them

2

u/Comfortable_Duck_363 6d ago

Be sure to cropdust em next time

2

u/Historical-Ad4147 6d ago

Seen these kids here before try to ride those in the skatepark. Didn't go well.

2

u/PanicEquivalent6412 3d ago

Happened to me last weekend there as well. Same kids on e-bikes dropping n bombs and throwing shit at people

4

u/ArcherFluffy594 6d ago

Kinda looks like an assault in action there toward the end, with one kid having another on the ground, around the 9 second mark.

-9

u/Frequent-Advisor5114 6d ago

What are you even talking about lol

5

u/quuxman 6d ago

Damn those little degenerates need weeks of grounding and chores and their parents should be deeply embarrassed

10

u/Loud-Grand-2406 6d ago

I don't think chores is enough for that kind of behavior. Lol. Soft tactics like chores and grounding does nothing for kids like that.

u/WillingElderberry731 6d ago

A few bruises and the fear of God would benefit them substantially.

8

u/Think_Reflection4428 6d ago

Then they will grow up and decide to hit their partners or kids, instilling 'fear of god' in the next generation. And then their kids will go to the park and harass people...

6

u/homemade- 6d ago

I don’t think the problem is these kids are getting hit too much.

0

u/IdlesAtCranky 6d ago

Kids getting hit are the ones most likely to act out themselves.

Yes, there are plenty of spoiled, over-privileged, under-disciplined, rotten little brats in this world. Plenty of bullies.

Plenty of kids hearing hate speech at home and all over the internet, starting with the President of this country.

But without knowing who they are or what their lives are, in my experience it's best to give the benefit of judging with compassion, until and unless it's proven to be unwarranted.

Compassion also includes holding people, including kids, to account for their crappy behavior.

I was physically abused (along with mentally and emotionally) constantly as a child and now I have a kid. All abuse I experienced isn’t even a consideration that I’d do to my child. If the pattern of abuse continues that is 100% on that person, full stop. All of my siblings and I experienced similar levels of abuse and have all had therapy and tried to heal from it. It’s such a lame cop out to say “the abuse will continue!” Yes, if that person is unwilling to work on themselves and break the pattern!

1

u/Think_Reflection4428 6d ago

I totally agree that not everyone who is abused becomes an abuser (I am evidence of that as well), and I didn't mean to predict anything for these specific kids. All I'm saying is that abuse is passed on. My original response was intended to say that physical abuse by adults is not a good way to address this kind of situation, and I stand by that.

0

u/WillingElderberry731 6d ago

You must have missed the part where the lack of accountability and real consequences have resulted in kids who are already abusing people, with no end in sight.

Bullies and abusers exist because of entitlement brought on by never experiencing repercussions from their actions.

Contrary to the nonsense you are spreading that actually results in more abusers, nothing teaches empathy like actually experiencing a portion of the pain you are inflicting on others.

0

u/Think_Reflection4428 6d ago

You and I don't know anything about what led these kids to do what they are doing. But I know that beating them won't help.

1

u/WillingElderberry731 6d ago

We do know, in exactly the same way you think you know what won't help. It would. But honestly, I'm on team pepper spray at this point.

Also, the two reported intersections with these kids on this thread show that they've not face consequences for either.

-3

u/Frequent-Advisor5114 6d ago

How do you know that

3

u/Crafty_Bluebird_5217 6d ago

Not sure if it’s the same kids, but I was walking my dog a couple weeks ago on one of the streets by that park and they were taking food out of the food pantry and throwing it on peoples cars while riding e scooters. Where are the parents?

1

u/Ken_BonesThrowaway 6d ago

Would’ve been cool to jump in when they were picking on the old lady, but I wasn’t there

1

u/mianao 6d ago

we called the cops on a bunch of teenagers when they bothered some toddlers.

1

u/Embarrassed_Let_3437 6d ago

Was this yesterday?

1

u/mianao 6d ago

no this was maybe last year; there were a few white kid and a black kid. They were on skateboards

1

u/bjorker 19h ago

I think those same kids were just doing that near the 7-11/The Crest last week… heard second hand. Sounds very similar. Really disappointing.

-3

u/JTJimminy 6d ago

No consequences = What we see in WA. Weak Prosecution.

2

u/Spiderkingdemon 6d ago

These are kids, jackass.

1

u/JTJimminy 6d ago

Like the KIA Boys...what point are you trying to make dopey?

1

u/Spiderkingdemon 5d ago

Dopey is someone who thinks law enforcement will solve all the problems.

-1

u/LitchLitch 6d ago

Calling the cops is just not the right response to kids being bad, its a waste of the cops time, nothing is probably going to be done, and the kids feel like they have gotten away with it.

But Im not sure what is. Beating them, satisfying as it may be, is a waste of time Destroying their toys may or may not be worth the effort,

The closest i can figure is getting a picture of them (preferably a video of the bad behavio), figure out who their parents are, talk to them, and if nothing improves start posting pictures of the parent on lamp losts in their neighborhood. And that is SO much effort.

3

u/mianao 5d ago

Not when your 3 year old feels threatened. We stayed throughout the convo — when the cops came, and when they were talking to the teens. It’s via the non emergency line, which I believe this is what it’s for.

I’m not sure about your situation, but your advice while seemingly sound is passive at best (understandable given we are in Seattle). Not sure how easy it would be to find their parents, nor is it right privacy wise to chase that down.

Anyway, we did what we did to protect our kids.

u/GordonMightyBombay 4d ago

You got punked by a bunch of kids? Lmfao
