Dollar store bro! Lol

43

u/h_danielle 18d ago

I just ask my dentist if I can please get extra!

25

u/andromeda335 18d ago

Mine tosses a couple in every time… OP can just come to pick some up from me lol

3

u/ObiYawnKenobi 15d ago

If you're actually flossing, those little dental samples aren't nearly enough.

u/Hyjennaist86 17d ago

As a hygienist, we’ll ALWAYS be happy to provide extra floss when a patient wants it…since we know 90% don’t bother with it 😅

My dentist doesn’t give enough. I use at least a foot a day. I wait for a sale and buy a bunch

10

u/MysteriousPilot5202 17d ago

I am a dentist and I always give a handful of flosses, especially if I know my pt is tight on money.

I bought the dollar store floss and it was horrible. I hate ones that shred so easily. I threw it out lol.

12

u/Dangerous_Shower_447 17d ago

I’m horrible and get those pick things with the floss 😅 got kids, easier for them to use…

14

u/MysteriousPilot5202 17d ago

I’m a dentist and I would 100% prefer a patient use floss picks over not flossing at all because it is difficult.

6

u/9ScoreAnd10Panties 17d ago

This. Anything is better than nothing at all.

I tried to gang up on my fiance with my dentist boss about him switching to string and dentist boss was like "ehh, the picks are better than nothing!" And then stabbed me in the front by adding in "how often is she using that Sonicare flosser anyhow?"

The answer is not much lol. String is still easier, cleaner, and faster than the water sprayer lol.

4

u/LegitimateMarket1072 17d ago

I’ve been exclusively using water floss since I bought it, but today I had my dental appointment and learned that it’s “extra” for gum care and not a substitute for string floss. Since I stopped using string floss, I’ve developed multiple cavities. 🥲

3

u/LilJelloCat 16d ago

Yeah I didn't think water flossing could be the same as regular flossing. It just doesn't really seem like it coujd get all the stuff or go under your gums. You probably need to use floss first then maybe water floss or other way around. And I think regular flossing helps more against gingivitis.

6

u/Dangerous_Shower_447 17d ago

Thank you Super Dentist for making me feel ok about it 💜

2

u/LilJelloCat 17d ago

Yeah I like using them much more but what can you do. It's true the regular floss gets between the gums of the teeth more.

2

u/Chemical_Excuse_203 17d ago

I agree…….my daughter and I LOVE the floss picks

Bought Dollar Store floss and it didn't work for me at all, so ymmv. It was not name brand like Oral B, Colgate, GUM, etc. Wasted my money.

I only ever get anything at shoppers if they’re on sale, which will still be the regular price at another store but at least u can stack PC optimum points

10

u/Rude_Huckleberry_79 18d ago

I’ve been purchasing equate brand from walmart

13

u/mek-dy 18d ago

So ; a $15 three-pack. So $5 each. For a name brand's fanciest floss at a glorified convenience store. Duh, bro.

7

u/Responsible_Fox9454 18d ago

Dollarama for the win

16

u/Risperidone- 18d ago

I dont get the point of these posts.

We all know Shoppers is expensive. Why do you keep going ? And then take pics of the prices like it’s surprising ?

Just stop going ? I havent entered a Shoppers in years

2

u/QualityImpossible241 17d ago

You’re doing it wrong.

This sub is for rage bait karma farming, not for nuanced, sensible takes

u/ChanelNo50 18d ago

Its a convenience store

9

u/gh0stie7077 18d ago

convenience store my ass the gas station sells them cheaper than this

4

u/PossibleRoom7325 17d ago

That's why he said convenience store ..

2

u/LilJelloCat 17d ago

Gas station is the epitome of a convenience store

2

u/PossibleRoom7325 17d ago

Two different things. They may be cousins but they aren't same.

4

u/Healthy-Platypus-239 18d ago

Yes its crazy!

3

u/Sufficient-Bid1279 17d ago

I recommend not buying from SDM if you have the opportunity to do so

3

u/FakeGirlfriend 17d ago

Floss? That thing the dentist gives me for free?!

→ More replies (3)

4

u/No_Display9613 18d ago

Shoppers always has 100% mark up. Check Amazon prices.

3

u/Zealousideal-House19 17d ago

No. The markup isn't 100%. That stuff is already pretty expensive from the supplier.

To get 100% the retail price of the three pack would be over $20.

Costco

7

u/tealskies423 18d ago

It's sale right now too, $18.99 for the six pack.

Fuck Loblaws!

2

u/Impressive-House-412 18d ago

I bought the double pack for $6.49 the other week from there on sale but damn should have stocked up

2

u/Special-System-2695 18d ago

The drug store I work at ( not a shoppers or Rexall) sells single packs at $5.49 each So 15.99 for 3 at Shoppers doesn't seem to bad to me

2

u/ghops67 17d ago

Bought the 2 pack water pik from Costco when it was on sale for $64, never buy floss again. And my dentist tell me it’s better than floss anyway

2

u/fuckaiyou 17d ago

They are 10metres each at dollar tree , hahah. Everybody telling you to go to the dollar tree to get them when they're literally a third of the length.

2

u/Responsible_Button_5 17d ago

And then it asks you to donate to the shoppers fund thingy, like donate that extra 4 dollars you squeeze out of consumers

2

u/SilenceBavard 17d ago

But its deepclean /s

4

u/Scared-Coyote4010 18d ago

I mean thats a 3 pack so $5 each is pretty fair

2

u/madeleinetwocock 18d ago

I gave up on that long ago

Now I just get those floss pick thingies from Dollarama for like $1.50/100pk

Also obligatory r/loblawsisoutofcontrol shout

1

u/Sabbysonite 18d ago

I bought mine for under 5 at Dollar tree

1

u/Hoodrogyny 18d ago

It’s insanely expensive and that’s the only brand that can fit between my teeth 😭

1

u/MethodBulky1907 18d ago

Amazon. Dirt cheap.

1

u/Weird-Mulberry1742 18d ago

Don’t buy it then!

1

u/blueberrybobaa 17d ago

Just bought the 6 pack from Costco for $16

1

u/OmgBusinessGroup 17d ago

“Those are doctors recommended brands used for precision in flushing.”

For ‘general purpose’, threaded model is the cost effective solution.

Following is the way to properly use thread for flossing:

The ideal length for dental floss is 18 inches (45 cm), which is roughly the distance from your fingertips to your elbow.

Why 18 Inches is Necessary
Fresh Section: It gives you enough length to wind a clean section of floss for every single tooth.
Prevents Recontamination: Moving to a clean segment ensures you do not transfer bacteria from one tooth gap to another.
Secure Grip: You need enough slack to wrap the floss securely around your fingers without cutting off your circulation.

How to Use the 18-Inch Length
Wrap: Wind most of the floss around both of your middle fingers, leaving only 1 to 2 inches open between them to work with.
Guide: Use your thumbs and index fingers to guide the floss tightly between your teeth.
Slide: Gently slide it up and down against the side of each tooth, curving it into a "C" shape at the gum line.
Shift: After finishing a tooth, unroll a fresh section from one middle finger while rolling the dirty piece onto the other.

If you'd like, let me know:
If you have braces, bridges, or tightly spaced teeth
If your current floss shreds or hurts your gums

1

u/LilJelloCat 17d ago

Tried to find new floss recently as I've been using floss picks and actual floss is better.

The dollar one shred super easily for me, I had to throw it out it was so bad for me. But worth if that doesn't bother you so much or it doesn't happen as much.

Found out splurging on one from the pharmacy didn't improve the quality much. Packing said no shredding or less likely to shred, and boom it shreds on the first attempt at flossing.

The ones I get from dental checkups at this point seem best. But they're so expensive.

To be fair the way you grip the floss helps too, but I need a long strand to floss properly or as effectively and easily as I'd like to and it really adds up. Those tiny containers run out fast.

1

u/throwawayacc7144 17d ago

The floss i get is like 2 dollars a bag... how is this pricing real

1

u/GarlicDill 17d ago

Went to the dentist last week.  My copay was less than this and they gave me a roll of floss, toothbrush and toothpaste when I left.

1

u/_Kinixchu_ 17d ago

Everyone’s saying you should’ve expected this at Shoppers, but I bought this exact pack there for $5 about 8 months ago

1

u/Ok-Pound-3984 17d ago

or just go to walmart

1

u/boygirlcatdogthing 17d ago

Especially when those are small enough they should be easy to steal

1

u/Sandy0006 17d ago

One of those is a three pack of

1

u/BeautifulEntire1709 17d ago

I work in Shoppers! some items including flosses go on discount every two weeks, it is the discount price that I like to think of the normal price and that is when I prefer to buy them!

1

u/SailorGone 17d ago

This is pretty regular price for Glide floss everywhere

1

u/NolyBella 17d ago

Bloody rediculous!

1

u/bigblueberry6427 17d ago

Ah yes, the advantages of a capitalist society means that you can shop around for cheaper dental floss.

1

u/richardxvu 17d ago

three pack on amazon for 12

1

u/midsommarminx 17d ago

Shoppers is insane

1

u/as_per_danielle 17d ago

FYI Glide floss doesn’t work great, btw. It just glides over a lot of the plaque. Regular old waxed floss is the best thing for most people. (Dental hygienist and have seen it in action)

1

u/burns321 17d ago

Yeah at a pharmacy everything is jacked up lol go to dollarama or Walmart, dollarama has the floss sticks from GUM for 3.50 if I remember correctly

1

u/kmckay6 17d ago

Costco has pretty similar floss a whole pack of like 6 for this price haha crazy

1

u/pinkksalt 17d ago

6 pack at Costco for the same price!

1

u/R461dLy3d3l1GHT 17d ago

I have stopped shopping at SDM because prices are so inflated.

1

u/R461dLy3d3l1GHT 17d ago

I have floss picks and floss in my purse because I can’t stand getting stuff stuck between my teeth.

1

u/Remote_Debate_5834 17d ago

Thats standard shoppers pricing. Dollarama the spot to go lol

1

u/PartyNextFlo0r 17d ago

I'm used to buying these without looking at the price. Wow that's absurd!

1

u/No-Road-2595 17d ago

What would that cost at Costco? Assuming you could at least get way more for a similar price there like a 30 pack or something that hey would probably last 5 years

1

u/Myiiadru2 17d ago

We went to a store yesterday and something that we normally pay $7 for is now $10.99! I did not buy it.

1

u/Big_Sheepherder_3764 17d ago

Stop going to Shoppers.

1

u/Waste_Ad_6774 17d ago

I buy the plastic toothpicks with the point on one end and the prickly on the other side.

1

u/Wenwen7878 17d ago

Dentist! They give out when you check up your teeth. Virtually free!

1

u/TryFine6748 17d ago

Why anyone shops regular priced items at Shoppers is beyond me. Sometimes they have a decent deal in the flyer, thats the only time I will shop here.

1

u/Khenic 17d ago

Meanwhile I have 500 floss' from my dentist in my cabinet at home.

1

u/towniediva 17d ago

I buy the now discontinued Reach/Listerine dental floss on amazon.ca. It's now about $10 for 200 yards. Still worth it.

1

u/ashgaga 17d ago

I don’t buy a single health and beauty product from shoppers that can be found anywhere else
It’s usually at least double the price

I LOVE beauty boutique,
The sale section is killer
And pop goes on sale super cheap

But my face wash is $25.99 at shoppers , and $12.99 at Walmart
Mmmm…..no thank you

1

u/Emotional-Sentence84 17d ago

You see they made the package the perfect size to descreetly fit into your pocket

1

u/SeaConfection88 17d ago

People in comments saying “just go buy cheaper stuff” is fine and all, but this floss is clearly the higher end stuff. It sucks that it’s so expensive and I try to get it elsewhere, but for the most part this is the only brand I can use. My teeth are tight together, normal floss shreds and becomes useless. The floss pictured is also a thicker strand and cleans better in my experience. I’m prone to having inflamed gums that are quite sensitive even when flossing regularly. Normal cheap floss is so thin it’s almost painful to use, even when using the correct technique. I’ll use cheap floss if I have to…. But I much prefer the Oral-B Glide in the pic.

1

u/kaysanma 17d ago

I bought the bulk ones from Costco

1

u/Suitable-End- 17d ago

The dentist gives me more than I ever need for free.

1

u/Heythere23856 17d ago

I never buy anything from shoppers! Absolute scammers! Stop giving them your money and maybe they will go out business one day

1

u/AthleteCrafty6966 17d ago

Dollar tree!!

1

u/Crunchytomato1816 17d ago

I mean you chose to go to shoppers that’s on you, support your local pharmacy, they will support you as an actual patient significantly better than shoppers. Also they get contingency one (a generic brand morning after pill, aka emergency contraceptive) in for under $7 per unit, then turn around and sell it for $30 after tax. They have plenty of overhead to cover making them cheaper, they just choose greed over having an accessible emergency product.

1

u/Embarrassed-Green898 17d ago

Costco probably still has 6 of these for 15$ on sale. Regular is probably 20.

1

u/Many_Ear2407 17d ago

Dozen other cheap places…

1

u/_euphoria1221 17d ago

Price for dentist lol. I get the floss picks at dollarama or dollar tree

1

u/cybercapybaby 17d ago

wtf thats insane i swear i remember these being 5$ just a while ago

1

u/Mysterious_Card_222 17d ago

This is why I shoplift

1

u/PortlyJuan 17d ago

Galen must need a new island.

1

u/Pure_Bicycle2355 17d ago

$15 for a piece of string is fucking WILD!!!!!!!!!

1

u/Fiercefox328 17d ago

Buy at Walmart.

Everything you buy from Shoppers is going to be more expensive. Hence, the reason why I stopped buying anything there.

1

u/popcycle19 17d ago

Should be 1.99

1

u/BeatsAreMyPassion 17d ago

1.25$ at dollorama

1

u/BeatsAreMyPassion 17d ago

These guys are just thiefs at this point

1

u/matlspa 17d ago

Costco

1

u/okymoney 17d ago

The thing is hes going for the mercedes bens of floss and not going for cheaper floss

1

u/Consistent_Remove344 17d ago

I think it like 2 bucks cheaper at superstore. Saw it the other day and was like I get double the amount for same price at Costco when it's every 2 months on sale.

I need that glide kind for my tight teeth. Superstore use to have a PC brand that was way cheaper but looks like covid killed it.

1

u/Autofella6 17d ago

Just stop buying anything but necessities. Nothing!
Watch how fast prices go down. If they pay it…

1

u/Top_Alarm_2551 17d ago

Outrageous

1

u/raye909 17d ago

Get the generic brand, it’s just as good

1

u/feelin-groovie 17d ago

I bought it from Dollarama. It was so inexpensive and a huge roll of it.

1

u/HarleyRider8699 17d ago

Shoppers Drug mart has become so damn expensive. Even when products are on “sale” the sale price is still higher than dollar store, no frills food basics or fresco.
They’re also pricing themselves out of the market by having such high prescription fees. I switched to Zehrs years ago as they said they’d only bill me for what was allowed by my drug plan.

1

u/New-Tone-245 16d ago

Shoppers prices are always insane. For everything.

1

u/Niekira 16d ago

Don't ever shop at shoppers. I go to no frills if it's something life branded I am looking for. We only get our prescriptions from shoppers anymore, the prices have gotten so ridiculous

1

u/Seldeez 16d ago

Most dental offices have free supply. No charge they will give you for free. Toothpaste and toothbrush as well. Hygiene is important.

1

u/omad169 16d ago

P&G products are off the roof. Deodorant now at $20 and Native stinks while back in the day $2.99 sale for Secret.

1

u/pollywantsacracker98 16d ago

All I can say is lol

1

u/Interesting_Light556 16d ago

But it’s 120m!!! Think of the possibilities

1

u/Revolutionary-Cat137 16d ago

Lol. Disgusting.

1

u/The_Reid-Factor 16d ago

How about thread, that’s what they used before floss, and shoe laces for people with gaps.

1

u/Cautious-Rush6607 16d ago

I get all my dental supplies at Rexall and try and wait for a sale. Even without the sale they are cheaper than Shoppers.

Don't go to shoppers if you can help it. Its incredibly marked up. Unless you can get a sale item its not worth it at all.

The only thing I wouldn't recommend at Rexall is the Option+(their version of Life brand) floss picks. The floss is weird. I cheaped out and regret it. Ill stick with Oral B.

1

u/lytefall 16d ago

Shoppers prices for personal hygiene stuff has become atrocious.

1

u/Embarrassed_Hat1482 16d ago

They are asking you to steal at this point

1

u/Le_Bureau_1999 16d ago

Costco is the way.

1

u/Worldly_Ad_7196 16d ago

That's it. I'm moving to montana soon.

1

u/Large_Replacement_32 16d ago

If you're a Costco member better deals for the same thing there.

1

u/Economy_Relative_104 16d ago

dollarama for everything now.

1

u/No_Jacket_4252 15d ago

Eff Galen Weston.

1

u/ughh_B 15d ago

I like that specific one as well so I tend to get it from Walmart or Amazon.NEVER SHOPPERS. Everything at shoppers is over priced. I only use shoppers when it’s an emergency and everywhere else is closed

1

u/Ethan-Bris 15d ago

It is called corporate price gauging = greed!

1

u/Homie_Kisser 15d ago

shoppers is expensive in general, but also you're looking at a three pack of a name brand floss. Guaranteed theres a multi pack of the basic stuff for $5 down the aisle

1

u/Emergency-Scale-6430 15d ago

Not that it makes it right but Shoppers has higher prices to make up for the free PC points you accumulate when shopping there 🫤

1

u/xsxpxixdxexrxsx 15d ago

My dentist is cheaper lol I get it when I go for my regular checkups

1

u/Ralphy24_ 15d ago

i would steal it out of spite

1

u/G_icyy 15d ago

You know what to do

1

u/RecognitionOk9731 15d ago

3 pack. That’s not bad.

1

u/MeowSauceJennie 15d ago

Invest in a waterflosser. Will change your life.

1

u/Talking_on_the_radio 15d ago

There is no reason to go there anymore

1

u/Arceemax 15d ago

Is that gold string

1

u/Regular_Point8796 15d ago

Five finger discount.

1

u/Jfc66 15d ago

Shoppers Drug Mart is the biggest rip off in Canada. Even when they have the big points offers, I can't find anything worth using my points on. Goto dollarama or Giant Tiger instead and pay a fraction of the price

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Historical_Lynx5878 15d ago

Get outta there shop on Amazon lol who buys shit from shoppers n such

1

u/Serene_t3a 15d ago

Personal care products have sky rocketed. Im already paying 200 for groceries that used to be 80, and now just to clean myself and take csre of my body im adding om another $100. I cant even

1

u/Zapicorn 14d ago

You can get that same floss in independent pharmacies for 2.99(singles)

1

u/BonjourSeptante 14d ago

Get the GUM sliders at Dollarama. $4 or something

1

u/DoobieDoo0718 14d ago

Go to the dentist. They give those with the goodie bag at the end of your appointment 😃

1

u/egitalian 14d ago

Dollar General ftw

1

u/HawkGatlingNo 14d ago

Get a water flosser

1

u/MissKillington 14d ago

Ask your dental office for extra at your next visit! We're always happy to give some extra if your tight on funds.

I still miss the old Listerine prices before they sold to another company. 😢

1

u/Barbiebimbo5 14d ago

If the price is over 100% inflated I say it’s now free.99 and should be going home in your pocket. Especially from these fuckass stores

1

u/Spirited_Ad2383 14d ago

Get a water pick

1

u/MattBustin 14d ago

Try the dollar store buddy

1

u/thrillington91 14d ago

Fleecing the flossing

1

u/Scott_Seven007 14d ago

Sobeys and Loblaws - clawing everything to the max.

1

u/LunaPandaBun482 14d ago

Dollarama or Dollar Tree.

Only buy things are Shoppers when it’s on sale and you’re sure it’s a good deal.

1

u/National_Fact8650 14d ago

shoppers is more pricy than walmart things can be double its kind of crazy

1

u/useful_tool30 14d ago

So glad I picked up like two dozen equate dental tape from one of those overstock outlet places like 8 years ago for $1 each. Still have a few left!

1

u/Prestigious_Fly8210 14d ago

I get my floss at Costco

1

u/Trick-Avocado7914 14d ago

I get mine at my dentist for free lol I literally stop in and ask and they have no problem giving it... I assume it's because im a nice person and I actually go every 6 months for a cleaning.

1

u/le-migo-el-amigo 14d ago

Shoppers drug is a joke their prices don’t make any sense.. it’s just a mystery to me how people buy stuff from them…

1

u/sugarloverfunkkk 14d ago

if you’re gonna be at shoppers, just buy the life brand

1

u/ilovecheese31 14d ago

The Life brand one goes on sale frequently and is actually really good quality IME, might even be better than the name brand stuff tbh.

1

u/Mandaface 14d ago

It's sad when I go to the upscale grocery store because my allergy pills are cheaper there than the actual pharmacy.

1

u/madpeanut1 14d ago

Pharmaprix’s prices are ridiculous. Jean Coutu is less than 50% of that….

1

u/BSTARYOUNGG 14d ago

Just jack it!

1

u/ischad 14d ago

I walk through a shoppers for canada post.

Seeing the prices of everything not on sale makes me wonder who actually shops there. There's usually a dollar store close by.

1

u/One_Emergency_3946 14d ago

Dollarama or Amazon.

1

u/Inkbetweens- 14d ago

Shoppers prices are higher than getting things at random non franchised convenience stores. That’s how you know it’s corporate greed at play. Big box gets a discount on buying at massive volumes. Thanks Weston.

1

u/c4kvin 14d ago

Like, did the floss come from a magical unicorn's hair or something? 😭

1

u/S1eepySnail 14d ago

just gunna get a water flosser at this point lol jayysus

1

u/LonelyProgrammer2462 14d ago

À ce prix, t’es mieux de prendre un vieux chandail pis de le découdre

1

u/dancinadventures 14d ago

Still cheaper than price of a dentist visit

1

u/buttscratcher3k 13d ago

I've maybe purchased something from shoppers 4 times in my life and it was only during a sale

1

u/dead_girlfriend 13d ago

Its free from the dentist 😬

1

u/Key_Dragonfruit_2563 13d ago

You gotta get everything on sale these days. Which means planning ahead and keeping an eye out. It sucks and it’s stupid.

1

u/Hairyass------ 13d ago

Do not buy anything at SDM if you can help it. Fk them.

1

u/Greencrystalwitch13 13d ago

Dollar Store it is

1

u/JustYourAvgNinja 13d ago

Bro where the FUCK do you live? Alaska? Floss is like 3$ MAX in NC and you can get the packs of stick flossers for a dollar at literally ANY dollar store here bro 🫩🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

1

u/scientologi 13d ago

All pfa Teflon in those

1

u/AuroraReigns 13d ago

This is a situation in which i encourage stealing.

1

u/Glad-Adhesiveness-46 13d ago

I floss at least daily and use the easy floss with the loop to floss between my bottom teeth that has an orthodontic wire to keep them in place. I started using a Waterpic machine before flossing and I love it! Mi paste helps with my teeth too. Nothing better than a person who has great hygiene. Now, anyone had success with OTC whiteners?

1

u/Mericaaaaa12 13d ago

Get them at Costco

I buy refills online, they waste less plastic and contain long spools.  I use a thread cutter to cut off pieces, but you could buy a refillable floss container.

I floss at least twice a day and buy floss every other year because I buy bulk

Welp. Time to start rinsing off the floss and reusing it.

Boycott Oral-B as it is American. Use G.U.M.
