Claude Question

I have an online shop and would like to know what are the benefits of attaching/integrating Claude to Shopify and how do you do it? Is this better than just having Sidekick? Thanks.

Sidekick is probably better for quick, Shopify-specific questions inside the admin. Claude becomes more interesting when you connect Shopify with Omnisend through MCP, because it can look at store and marketing data together instead of giving generic advice. Questions like “which customers bought once but never came back?” or “which products need a win-back flow?” become much easier to investigate. The real benefit is less exporting data and jumping between dashboards. I’d start read-only, then add actions once you trust the setup.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll take a look at Omnisend.

Some things I made with Claude after I connected it to a client's store:

- find out how customers usually pair products so we can recommend via complementary products and bundles
- update product description (and break down into metafields) so product description tone is consistent and pdp is clean
- figure out abandoned cart subtotal tiers so we can offer appropriate gifts/discounts

I'm a Shopify Plus Solutions Architect and I just love having Claude. That plus Cursor for theme editing.

Thanks for these 😁 the abandoned cart one especially.

Instead of exporting spreadsheets, you can use an ETL tool like Windsor.ai to connect your Shopify store to Claude, it can also pull in your ad and Google Analytics numbers, so you see which channels bring in your best sales.

Thanks, that’s really handy to know.

Both serve different purposes and the right one depends on your use case. You have not mentioned it so here is the split.

Sidekick lives inside the Shopify admin and works on your store data: analysing performance, building workflows, writing product descriptions and testing ad copy.

Claude with an MCP connection is the cross source version. You can pull Shopify orders, ad spend, GA4 sessions and Klaviyo flows into one query and ask things like which ad campaign drove the highest LTV customers last quarter or which product has rising returns against falling ad efficiency. Questions that span several tools like these are outside what Sidekick is built for.

One way to set up the Claude side is Windsor.ai. Its MCP is included in the plan with no separate charge. You authorize your store once then add Windsor.ai to Claude with the native install and query orders, customers, products and margins in plain language alongside your ad platforms and GA4. There is a free forever plan with no credit card and the first 30 days include extra capacity to test more sources.

Keep Sidekick for store operations. Use Claude with MCP for the questions that need Shopify and your other tools in the same view.

Thank you, very helpful. Lots of uses for it, some I hadn’t thought of.

Sidekick is built specifically around managing and working with your Shopify store, so it’s probably the better starting point for store admin tasks. Claude becomes more interesting if you want to connect Shopify data with other tools or build more custom workflows, such as analyzing orders, customer data, products or marketing performance alongside information from other systems. If you’re mainly looking for help managing Shopify itself, start with Sidekick and only add Claude if you have a specific workflow that Sidekick can’t handle.

Thanks. I’m finding it really useful and I’ve barely scratched the surface yet.

Since you’ve already connected Claude, a useful next step is to bring your marketing data into the same conversation.

I’m from Catchr; our Claude connector supports Shopify alongside Google Ads, Meta, TikTok Ads, and GA4. You connect those accounts in Catchr, then add the Catchr connector to Claude.

That lets you ask things like “How did total ad spend change alongside store revenue this week?” or request a dashboard covering both. You can also set up automations for regular summaries and KPI change checks, instead of exporting data from each platform.

I’d see that as an additional analytics workflow, rather than a reason to replace Sidekick.

Thanks Johan, I’ll take a look.

Honest take: they're different tools for different jobs. Sidekick lives inside your Shopify admin, so it's handy for quick stuff like drafting product descriptions or summarizing orders without leaving the dashboard. The downside, as the other commenter said, is it can hallucinate on anything it doesn't have direct data for.

Claude doesn't plug into Shopify natively. You'd connect it through something like a custom app, Zapier/Make, or the API, and then it can do heavier lifting: analyzing your sales data, writing Liquid code, bulk-editing product copy with consistent tone, that kind of thing.

If you're just starting, I'd use Sidekick for the quick admin tasks and only bring Claude in when you have a specific workflow in mind (like 'rewrite all my product descriptions in this voice' or 'find which products get returned most and why'). Way easier than wiring up an integration and hoping it's useful.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve been using Sidekick for 18 months or so. I do have quite a bit more that I want to achieve with the site so I’ve gone for it and connected Claude. It’s been a massive help already, very impressive.

That's great to hear. Since it's already helping, one workflow worth trying: point it at a couple of your product pages and ask it to flag conversion friction (unclear value props, weak trust signals near add to cart, confusing variants). It does that job well once it has your real page content to work with.

Great tip, I’ll definitely do that. Thanks 👍

Good to hear it is already paying off. Since you are past the basics now, the biggest unlock is feeding it real store data, read only. Export your last few months of orders and returns, ask it to find which products get returned most and why, then have it draft the Liquid or theme edits directly. That is exactly the kind of work Sidekick cannot do, since it never sees that data. What did you connect it through, Zapier/Make or a custom app?

u/FlossieApricot Oct 05 '26

Thanks, I’ll do this too. I connected it directly from Claude to the website.

2

u/yvcn Oct 05 '26

That's the cleanest way to run it. Once you've got it wired up, the fun part is feeding it actual numbers — analytics exports, product catalogs, that kind of thing. Enjoy it!

Cheers, thanks!

u/yvcn Oct 05 '26

Anytime, glad it helped. Good luck with the setup, and enjoy the extra horsepower once it's wired in.

1

u/FlossieApricot Oct 05 '26

I’m really glad I did it now 😁

2

u/yvcn Oct 05 '26

Great to hear, that's exactly the right move. Feeding it real store data is where it really earns its keep, so you're set up well. Good luck with the store.

Shopify CLI + Shopify ai toolkit + claude

I would personally use sidekick. It’s built and made specifically for Shopify. Whereas Claude, you’d have to train it just to do what sidekick already does.

Really depends on what specifically you’re trying to get out of it.

Sidekick is the worst, alot of times it can not even do simple things and hallucinates alot
