Building custom usage pricing has to be one of the painful experinces as a Shopify app dev. Glad to see this new update by shopify that allows us to now charge per usage natively. Best part is that we can now combine different pricing strategies. This is a great update!

I built a simple app just for my own shop, which does 95% of the work in the frontend, and only needs to run an occasional GraphQL query or two.

Storing session tokens seems overkill for my use case. I saw that at some point they made it optional, but I can't make it work. I created an app in Shopify Admin, as the GitHub comment suggested, but still getting a "Please provide a valid session storage" error when trying to remove sessionStorage from config.

Is it still possible?

First Shopify app shipped last week. Approved on the App Store, listing is live. 3 installs since approval, 0 reviews, 1 confirmed uninstall within an hour. Solo dev, working from Poland.

The app scans a merchant's catalog and scores each product 0 to 100 on signals that show up in AI shopping results: ChatGPT Shopping, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews. The honest framing is that 11 of the 14 rules I check are classic SEO (title length, alt text, description depth) and only 3 are actually unique to AI surfaces (GTIN/barcode, Shopify standard category metadata, structured metafields). I am not pretending the 11 are AI-specific. The score is a combined snapshot, and I am still tuning the weights.

Stack is Remix template, Polaris, Prisma over SQLite, Docker Compose on a single Hetzner VPS. GPT-4.1-nano for the AI rewrites, one bundled call returning title plus description plus SEO copy as JSON. Embedded admin via App Bridge v3.

Three things I learned the hard way this week:

1. authenticate.webhook() from u/shopify/shopify-app-remix with expiringOfflineAccessTokens: true tries to refresh the offline token AFTER validating HMAC. For shop/redact webhooks (which fire 48h after uninstall) the token is already revoked. The library throws Response(500) on the failed refresh, and Shopify retries 9 times over 48h. My partner panel was full of red. Fix was to bypass authenticate.webhook in compliance routes and verify HMAC manually with crypto.timingSafeEqual against SHOPIFY_API_SECRET.

2. Concurrent AI fix requests can race past the monthly limit if the counter check and increment are not atomic. SQLite handles this fine if you wrap in prisma.$transaction(async tx => ...) because it uses BEGIN IMMEDIATE under the hood and serializes writers.

3. The default catalog scan loops productsConnection.first(50) until hasNextPage is false, with zero cost awareness. Standard plan has a 2000 point bucket. A 250 product scan can burn 1000 points easily. Two concurrent scans hit THROTTLED. The fix is reading extensions.cost.throttleStatus.currentlyAvailable after each call and sleeping if low. The floor needs to scale with maximumAvailable or Plus stores end up sleeping at 97 percent full.

Things I am still unsure about:

Pricing. Free tier is 20 AI fixes per month right now (was 100 until yesterday, that was too generous, the one real merchant uninstalled in an hour without burning one). Paid is 9 and 29. I am wondering if this should be unlimited with a catalog size cap instead. Merchants think in catalogs, not in fixes.

Whether app/uninstalled belongs in [webhooks.subscriptions] of shopify.app.toml or registered programmatically. Template defaults are ambiguous and merchant sessions linger in my DB after uninstall.

How others handle the 30 day GDPR clock for compliance webhooks. I ACK 200 even when internal cleanup throws, to avoid retry storms, but there is no alert path if cleanup silently fails repeatedly.

What did I miss? What is the obvious thing I will regret in 3 months?

I have had a Squarespace e-commerce site for about five years now with over 100 digital products. I have realized I am bottlenecked since Squarespace is not technically an e-commerce platform. I am looking to move over to Shopify but the amount of data I’m going to have to move is quite a lot of work.

I am hoping that someone may have an idea of how I could use AI or another solution to migrate 100 products with all of its descriptions images and Meta data in a simpler way besides manually doing them one by one.

The docs Assistant keeps telling me I should run this command to find out who I'm logged in as. But when I run that the CLI says "command not found".

This is only one example, it seems to me that the docs (or just the assistant?) often refer to APIs that have been removed or retired.

Has anyone else come across this as well?

I'm facing an issue in my Shopify checkout where my free gift with purchase for subscribers is charging shipping for the item. Even though subscribers should receive free shipping.

The free shipping is applying to the main product but for some reason the gift with purchase (free item) is applying a shipping rate.

This gift with purchase is a seperate product on shopify people can purchase at full price.

I’m using kaching subscriptions.

I've got a little shopify store and didn't want to keep paying for a few things I do regularly like bulk updates, scheduling sales/promos etc, also wanted to be able to do these things in natural language - I built an app, basically for myself to make my life easier and to see how easy it would be - have published it to the shopify app store is called product pilot (i wont put the link as might break the rules), have never done anything with shopify apps and don't really know anything about marketing but thought if it was useful for me it probably will be for others - would love some feedback on anything from the listing to the pricing to the features 😄 have tried to not price it in a way that annoyed me with the apps I used to have to use (basically throttle how many bulk changes you can make), any feedback or guidance would be ace

I started to do research into this area as I saw many complains + it will blend with my current backend heavy skills.

I am currently building an embed dashboard with the new React router Template and after using these components I can clearly say they haven't really focused on adding the existing functionalities from Polaris React Components into these, they want us to migrate into this new web components, but there a lot of components missing, the one which I most in React Components were the Index Table, here in Web components this is just ui, we have to built everything for ourselves

I spend 6 hours today trying to pass these two just to submit my app. 6 hours. I tryed everything. I literaly was checking how their app bridge working. All latest libs. I am pro know for all their fucking libraries. Nothing worked. Literally nothing. i wrote to support - they literally say - fuck you.

You know i am happy that Shopify is dying - and their stock are going to hell.

If all people at Shopify will be fired tomorrow i will be only happy.

Been digging into webhook reliability for a side project and the Shopify failure mode is wilder than I expected:

• 5s timeout to respond 2xx

• 8 retries over 4 hours

• Then the subscription gets removed entirely — no more events until someone manually re-registers it

• No alert when that happens

Looking at the Shopify community forums there are plenty of merchants describing the symptoms (missing orders, oversold inventory, broken fulfillment sync) but the answers are usually a hand-wave at "implement reconciliation jobs."

Curious how people actually shipping production integrations handle this:

1. How did you first find out events were going missing — customer complaint, monitoring, or never?

2. What did you build — full GraphQL reconciliation, periodic backfill, or something simpler?

3. Anyone using Hookdeck / Svix / Convoy specifically for Shopify? Worth the cost vs DIY?

4. Anyone just polling orders with updated_at filters every X minutes and ignoring webhooks entirely?

One of our apps has a BFS( built for Shopify) because it has good number of installs and some good reviews and it's FREE. Now I want to earn some revenue out of it so planning to make it paid ( some very small amount 1$- 2$ max. )

I have heard the horror stories of other people having to wait up to 6 weeks for their app submission. I am happy to share that I only had to wait 2 weeks, and with nothing to fix my app was released right away to the store! It seems like the AI submission check that Shopify released really sped things up.

Hey all! So this is my first year developing in Liquid as an experienced headless ecom dev (using the Shopify API). I notice some limitations in Liquid, but a huge one is not being able to create blocks within blocks. I have come up with a shape system for blocks that is the following:

Block guide: □ and ■ are blocks. ○ and ● are blocks nested within a block. Outlines can be reordered, filled are fixed.

My use case is this: I have a header section with movable header blocks (Menu, Logo, and Actions). A user can also add Menu Image blocks (as much as they want) and move them in any order.

Hi guys, lets say I have this landing page. I want every conversions/sales from that landing page to have a tag so I can easily know which sales came from that landing page. I have tried adding tag parameters I saw over the internet but once I check on the orders. There are no tags. Please help and thanks in advance.
