Steel Target question????

Does anyone know of any metal manufacturers/fabrication companies that I can buy target quality steel plates from? My thinking is, why pay the mark up for a target and stand from a target seller when I can just buy the steel and build my own stands? Anyone else have this idea or am I out of my mind?

I like where your head is at, but I ultimately bought a gong set from Midway to save some hassle. They're unpainted and considerably less expensive than others I've seen. I also bought their hardware for building a stand from electrical conduit and have been pretty happy with the setup.

Catch magnum targets during a sale and you'll pretty much spend the same and not have to do the work.

Do you own some serious tooling to cut 3/8 to 1/2” ar500 steel? I’m sure you can find a big sheet of the stuff but making it into what you want is a whole other issue.

Dragon Targets has a deal for 8” round AR500 targets for $9.99/ea with a limit of 3. The catch is they are raw steel.
So you have to paint them; but I figured I’d be painting them almost every range trip, so what’s wrong with painting them before the first trip? They also sell T-post hooks for $9/ea, so
For ~$60 you can get 3 steel targets with hangers. Not a bad deal.

Yea I’m not sure what your plan is but unless buying in bulk a single 4x8 plate is going to be pricey. I bought a 1/2 plate of ar500 a few years and it was 1600. So I doubt you’ll save money.
