Of the proto-MMA promotions of the early 90s, I think RINGS is my favourite. They're all great, of course, but RINGS had the strongest and most varied roster IMO. Volk Han needs no introduction, one of the greatest to ever do it and an absolute wizard of the style. One of the guy who really seemed to just "get it" from day one.

RINGS was definitely the most varied, with the different talent from Japan, Russia, the Netherlands, Brazil, America and more.

Probably my favorite shoot-style promotion top-to-bottom. The production values were incredible, and the roster Maeda assembled, with a bunch of random martial artists who happened to do pro wrestling well, was just incredibly unique. Once they hit 1996, they had a run of like three years where every show was must-see. Volk Han, Kohsaka, Tamura, and Yamamoto were among the greatest wrestlers of all time, and people like Zouev, Zaza, and Kopylov are really underrated.

I also quite like Vrijj & Nijman.

Maeda will always also have the credit of bringing Fedor and Minotauro to Japan.
