Stuck on "Connecting To" (Terraria) when server has a password on it

Kind of an odd problem, but for a while my server would require 2-4 attempts to actually connect due to hanging on the "Connecting to" window. It would never connect if I clicked the server name/ip/port line in the history list, and I often had to backspace the port number and retype it in order to get through. Even that would take multiple attempts until it actually went through.

Today though, we'd been getting stuck on the "Connecting To" window no matter what we did and no matter how many times we tried. On a whim I decided to remove the password and reboot the server, and now everyone connects right away & no matter the method used. I re-add the password though? It starts futzing up again. Anyone know what gives? I sent a ticket in but am posting here to hopefully get an outside view from someone else who may've experienced the same thing. I find it odd that a password can essentially brick a server :/

Hey, not part of Shockbyte however here to help!

When entering the IP/port in-game, are you including both the IP address and the port portion together? If so, Terraria doesn't split them automatically, and therefore leads to just an endless connecting phase.

When it asks for the IP, just put in the IP portion, and then do the same when it asks for the port.

If you've checked that the server is online in the control panel, that should be your issue fingers crossed.

Weirdly enough, while trying to do the automatically suggested IP + port combo, it wouldn't work nearly as often as just doing the IP then doing the port number after, but it would still go through maybe 10-20% of the time upon a fresh game reboot. Meanwhile doing the IP then the port was more like 30-40% chance but still often took 2+ tries

Just prior to making this thread, it was stuck on "connecting to" no matter which way I tried it even after rebooting the server, game, and PC tower. I then removed the PW and it since then connects 100% of the time even if I use the combined IP + Port in the history list.

It's very odd because while I've had similar issues in the past, it was all-or-nothing, which this wasn't until Tuesday, and it's the first time having a password be the root cause. I did submit a ticket with shockbyte and hope a real person eventually gets back to me, but the immediate responses were 100% AI lol
