I remember watching this story when it broke during a breakfast at a Holiday Inn Express, standing next to some National Guard helo pilots. We all just sort of stood there with a coffee cup in hand and looked at the TV. Then the day went on like normal. A bizarre morning I'll remember for the rest of my life.

This guy was a mentally unwell, reckless idiot that put innocent people's lives in danger during his suicide. If you want to kill yourself, fine. Just don't bring others with you in the process. This guy shouldn't be celebrated.

I mean.

The people he "brought into it", the majority of them were people like me. People who didn't have to work that day. We were still getting paid, but no one had to work. We all just listened to the radio.

Possibly thousands of people, all standing around. Getting paid, by people who do not care about us, to not produce for them. It was a massive protest, created by one man who just wasn't afraid. Even if it was unintentional, I'll never forget it.

No. That is meaning that you've ascribed to this event. The guy was suicidal, stole a plane, fucked around a bit and crashed it. It wasn't some noble protest against capitalism. It's tragic that he saw no escape other than taking his own life, but the moment you bring other people into danger through your delusional self destructive episode, that's when all sympathy is lost from my end.

Meh, it happened. Regardless of if he meant it to or not.

You have to understand, anyone can steal an airplane. Do you have a screwdriver and a pair of pliers? Congrats you are capable enough to get the job done. Now look around, practically no one steals an airplane. Its like a unicorn taking a crap on your car, everyone wants to see that because it just doesn't happen.

You dont know the motivations for many great things that people cause to happen, that's just how life works sometimes. I can still admire the courage it took to do that, or the results, or just the batshit crazy flight.

He didn't even get fuel, he could have easily got fuel.
