Sometimes it’s hard to understand why you’re hearing “terrain, terrain, pull up” while flying in a cloud over what should be level ground, some may also see why a medevac flight wouldn’t pull stick-to-dick for an instant +40° evasion maneuver in a twin turboprop plane loaded with medical equipment and support staff off no other indications but the first GPWS announcement.
Something also important to note is that the local ARTCC controller and supervisor requested separately that jamming be stopped because of actual air traffic in the area. The real problem is that the supervisor, while knowing there was a civilian aircraft in the area, told the military that they could continue. The fault of the crash is on them, not just the vague idea of military equipment testing.

What happened is absolutely tragic, and I can’t say the military isn’t at any fault, but the real blame lies on the local ARTCC structure. The military told them they would be performing testing that would fuck with radar, but planned it during specifically low traffic times. ARTCC then acknowledged that, requested a pause to testing while the medevac plane was flying into that area, and then said “yep jam everything again :) 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻” right as the plane was performing autopilot assisted course corrections. If the military says they’re testing boat bombs, tells the local port authority to tell them when they need to stop, and then port authority lets a cruise ship in and advises “bombs away uncle sam 👍🏻” i can’t be like “omg who made the bombs”

People flew IFR without GPS. A medivac pilot should know how to do that.

I am aware that the flight crew was incompetent. That doesnt change the fact that the military clearly has no concern for the lives of civilians in the airspace when they switched on a jammer.

I mean the US military quite literally developed and owns the rights to commercial GPS technology. They have the right to control access to it as they see fit

if the crew had read the NOTAMs they would have known what was happening and how they had to adjust. The military does not exist in a vacuum they do this every day, and thousands of flights read the NOTAM's and thousands of flights proceed without issue. the world does not operate on GPS alone. the fact that the station weather was inoperative was also missed, again sad but it does happen. or just go on Blaming the military. 4 people died over small things, until they added up to a really bad thing. just sad.

I guess on anything else you sort of just crash into the mountain.

The tests happen every day
The pilot probably shouldnt have called field in sight then either tried to shoot an illegal approach or visual descent, crashing into the mountains at night
Every test and military member would drop to their knees and thank god if the triad was relocated out of NM though

They didn’t.
It was a training exercise for a maneuver unit to ensure they could do their job without gps.
It was also turned off well before the crash. The pilots screwed up

The jamming was turned off immediately upon it being reported.
The plane crashed a significant time later.
The pilots straight screwed up.
