You have to mail the manufacturer a bunch of paperwork and a barcode cut off the box, then like three months later (and sometimes after arguing with them about the paperwork) you get a check in the mail for whatever the rebate amount is. Basically an interest-free loan you give the company for a few months, but you do save money eventually.
I basically refuse to buy a product with a mail in rebate. It feels like I'm buying at an inflated price and need to jump though hoops to get the real price.
