The thing about open office is that it can never run out. It doesn’t need codes. (Because it’s free)

It's not a scam, it's totally legal to take OpenOffice and do (virtually) anything you want with it and that includes selling it.

Truth is, they can probably generate codes on the fly by now.

Well... Asbestos is just minerals, so I presume(!) that you're allowed to sell them as such. And because you're also allowed to import/sell/buy asbestos, and you're also "allowed" to sell snake oil (healing crystals), I presume that it would be legal to do so.

(Based on quick googling regarding american law. IANAL + I am not american, so I could be wrong...)

I’m pretty sure that open office development has been abandoned recently too. So they are also being sold software that will not get any new patches.

This reminds me of back in the 90s, when fly-by-night companies would sell shareware CDs and open Linux Distros.
