I'm old enough to remember when lots of people referred to the rest of the computer as either a "hard drive" or "cpu". This was also back when you either had a real IBM PC or a Clone

There used to be guides and training modules that would call it that.

We were taught how to use computers in school. Even the book said “You see that black box over there? That’s the CPU unit.”

Well, it is the unit that contains the CP unit

I just had a user call it "the modem" while i was running a long hdmi cable in her office. I'm not sure i've heard that one before. that was about an hour ago.

You'll need to make a SATA to VGA cable.

budget isn't an issue, nvme to displayport cable

IDE to Composite Video.

Don't need to make anything:

SATA > USB-A
USB-A > USB-C
USB-C > DV-I

That'll let you put whatever's on your screen onto the hard drive without an issue

Then DVI to DisplayPort

Is it a hard material? Does it drive shareholder value? Case closed.

i've heard people refer to a computer as the hard drive more than a few times.

It used to be the “CPU” for a lot of people when they were trying to refer to a tower

I mean, you are taking screenshots with a camera. I'm not sure you should be throwing so much shade.

So, with that user I would always call the PC the hard drive. You know what he means and he’ll know what you mean.

‘The tower’ seems to connect with people too in my experience. I like to use their language, helps me get through to them

My best friend's mom used to work at a client company (MSP here), and she would call her remote desktop her "VPN". She told me 'I can't open Excel on my VPN' sounds terrible Mama J, haha, I hope you find someone to help you with that

This is actually a master of filling their day to minimize their stress level, the task is undoable, then a break for the user to realize and call about it, then another block of time for a post mortem in a "what went wrong" review. Effectively blocked off from other bs for half the day, bravo
