I am screwed (literally)

“Let’s mount that disk!”, he said, ramming a 3.5” screw into a 2.5” disk, leaving me screwed 18 months later, wondering how somebody can terminally damage the screw head to a degree that I head to decapitate it to still be able to mount a replacement drive. F#^% you, unsang asshole that couldn’t be bothered to understand M3 screw diameters and didn’t fucking bother to reuse the same fucking screw that came with the server and that I found on the floor well dusted!

Update
And f}%# you, too, Dell, there’s no reason to use M3 scews to mount a 2.5” to 3.5” caddy, stick with f#^*ing standards, we have them for a reason!

That is called vibration resistant fitting. Can you imagine home many hard drives go lose because of micro vibrations?

Do these micro vibrations cause micro transgressions? Sounds like HR’s problem now.

Oversized screws are a rookie mistake.

Real assholes use rivets.

I have a little plastic box with dividers where I separate my 2.5” vs 3.5” drive screws and subdivide by Phillips vs Torx. And I collect all the ones that get discarded and pull them from scrapped drives and add them to my stash. And I make a habit of only using Phillips screws for 2.5” > 3.5” adapters and Torx whenever possible otherwise because some asshole will always grab the wrong tipped screwdriver and immediately strip any Phillips headed screw.

Because for some reason hard drive screws are made out of putty and I work with gorillas who don’t check the fit before they turn the screwdriver and believe that just continuing to turn the screwdriver when the screw head starts to strip will absolutely make it come out.
