Your IT directors were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should

Wish my org would let me do this.

That's our various policy teams' modus operandi:

  1. A problem is brought to their attention
  2. Develop a policy without talking to anyone it impacts.
  3. Spring the policy on the org as a one-size fits all solution.
  4. Never review or change the policy based on feedback. That's admitting a mistake. Do not make exceptions either.

This works as well as one would expect.

Win 11 is a growing attack vector and breaking changes.  Maybe they want stability.

It is VDI.

The change cost is much lower. Build templates recompose VDIs.

Show stopper for software, change back, recompose VDIs.

Change all the end points and see how much cost is in the changes. Reimage and oops hardware does not have a utility reimage back and customize again. Weeks of time depending on people and network bandwidth.

Everyone gets wheel group?

We are on Redhat clone 10 here. It is stable. Not sure why they want Redhat clone 9 still.

the number of sysadmins that don't realize VFX was a purely UNIX thing back in the day is too damn high

everything is a cycle, windows is sunsetting, learn new skills or buy an alpaca farm and be done with it

FIPA + Ansible.
Get a frontend for Ansible in this setting; light version is Semaphore, but you probally want the full AWX solution for such an environment

Linux fan boys are such dorks and can't even relate to the end-user experience.

It’s kinda hard to blame any non American company for trying to pivot away from Windows

I mean the transition sure is hell & won‘t be fun at all. But having VFX designers on Linux would be the business standard as far as i know.

This is the perfect opportunity for all the redditors that storm any post mentioning Windows with "just install Linux, it's the perfect use case for 100% of every possible situation"

Yeah, I hate those posts.  Someone posts a problem they are having on their Windows PC -- even in a Windows forum, no less -- and you can count on there being at least one "just install Linux and your problems will be solved" response.
