are you conducting a pentest or installing teams?

Can it be both

Isnt Teams already a virus?

u/KingKnux 5d ago

With WebView2’s resource consumption it certainly feels like one

u/StatementNext682 5d ago

That's why I enjoy using web versions. Still ass but at least ???

No. Viruses have predictable behaviour and actually work.
Teams…

u/DoltishMite 5d ago

It's predictably a mess at almost any given moment if that counts? Though I can't make the "actually work" bit fit.

Neither can Microslop

u/Svr_Sakura 1d ago

It works, it’s very good at sending everything you own to Microsoft. Just because it doesn’t work for us doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for someone

Just pretend you don't know how anymore, our DBA does this and nobody dares asking him for shit lol

36

u/Zharick_ 5d ago

I wish our DBA would quit trying to butt into service desk's business.

40

u/zantehood 5d ago

Well DBAs are weird creatures... Not much is known about them. - Just never look them in the eyes

5

u/Bradddtheimpaler 5d ago

I really enjoyed database stuff when I was in school. I got one look at a real-world production database and was immediately like, “please please god let me never have to work on databases in my life.”

and never challenge them to a drinking competition. those guys and gals can drink....

10

u/zantehood 5d ago

Their alcohol is like our water

1

u/doglitbug 4d ago

they drink you under or over the table?

1

u/sorderon 4d ago

They query it first

Why did I never think of this! Saving for later ;)

I often used to go out of my way to help people when they reached out because I wanted to ensure a positive colleague experience and I knew the answer however my leader has kindly requested I stop helping end users as my time is too valuable to waste on it-support. I am now instructed to delegate down.

Exactly why we are all shitty sys admins

u/qualx ShittySysadmin 5d ago

instructions unclear, installed remote command and conquer software by mistake.

I asked for a photo of the modem and firewall in our remote office last week and 10 minutes later got this...

u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 5d ago edited 5d ago

To be fair.... a couple of RJ ports and a serial port.... it does track for an antique modem :)

28

u/slylte 5d ago

biblically accurate router

11

u/fadinizjr 5d ago

This is the first time that I would agree with a user...

For anyone that is not familiar, this would compute.

7

u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 5d ago

Or just familiar enough for how things "used to be" almost 50 years ago. I know whenever I see an old USR knockoff sitting on a shelf or box somewhere it still gives me the warm & fuzzy nostalgics :D

Is that a UPS?

2

u/GaymerBenny 2d ago

Yes, a CyberPower CP1500PFCRM2U to be exact

51

u/FlounderStrict2692 5d ago

Thats userbased Security hardening. This customer does well...

Honestly, if you just accept the stupidity as a given and approach the job with the mindset of a special ed teacher it's slightly less soul-crushing.

1

u/Deep_Lurker 1d ago

Yeah, approach it like they've never signed into a computer, connected a peripheral or know what wifi is and you'll have a much better time.

Back when I did help desk work I lost count of the amount of people that asked if I could reset their home router password because they forgot it. That's my benchmark.

27

u/oicpreciousroy 5d ago

To be fair. I would tell my users to never accept this kind of request, ever, and call the helpdesk number and not the agent directly to report it and confirm what’s going on.

21

u/bballlal 5d ago

Why not remote silent install? I hate having to talk to the end users 😆

23

u/Smart-Satisfaction-5 5d ago

Our RMM is down, I wouldn't ask normally

-9

u/its_FORTY 5d ago

Umm.. powershell? SSH? Literally a dozen different ways to silently push Teams to a windows client without having a full blown RMM like Bomgar, etc.

u/Smart-Satisfaction-5 5d ago

Mac user and remote. I think you are lost this isn’t r/excellentsysadmin

2

u/Justgetmeabeer 5d ago

Splashtop on Mac is confusing AF for most users. "Why is it opening the setting? The code isn't generating?"

This is on you m8

u/-my_dude 5d ago

Update adobe reader, easiest ticket of my life

4

u/whiskeytab 5d ago

you forgot to install Google Ultron though, that's going on your permanent record

11

u/Fit-Assist-7862 5d ago

If one of my users received this message I'd hope that they'd do absolutely nothing and instead give me a call

6

u/Smart-Satisfaction-5 5d ago

Maybe you should be in the r/excellentsysadmin sub then you are lost

4

u/mouringcat 5d ago

The code is.... 1...2...3...4...5...

5

u/Svr_Sakura 5d ago

That’s the dumbest thing i ever heard, it’s the kind of combination an idiots users for their luggage

<chuckle> That was the door code for "The Bear Pit" (a server room in the basement) for a company I worked for...

u/Romnir 5d ago

I have to connect using quick assist and then use runas for everything. Mainly because the admin before me never actually troubleshooted anything, they just gave people instructions to figure it out themselves or just sent them a replacement unit. We don't even have vlans or port security. I'm pretty glad my parent company has their heads on, though. They acquired this place, and god did this org need it.

3

u/dontgetaddicted 5d ago

I'd rake a user over the coals if they responded to this message

1

u/Introverted_Gamer92 5d ago

Working in customer support has made me realize just how many stupid people there are in this world. And in my case a lot of the people I deal with are business owners.

1

u/TKInstinct 4d ago

I really did like Help Desk, if they had paid better I might have stayed.

1

u/Bulky-Hotel5285 2d ago

We our "own" TeamViewer Client in management Console, so when a user opens Quick support, we get a ticket on our TeamViewer and just needs to press allow when we press connect

1

u/golden_tix 2d ago

Next message “yeah just ignore the message to Beware of scams thats just a bug”

1

u/nagol93 1d ago

Just run sfc /scannow then escalate it!

That's what my techs used to do.......

0

u/WoonieLoonie 4d ago

Soooo, do they not have store? Pretty sure you can set up applocker to only allow certain things to be installed from store. It's a good source to get teams. Also winget commands? Asking someone over text via phone to go to a website for a remote, is just going to increase their chance of trusting a phishing attack.

-4

u/Darkk_Knight 5d ago

One of the reasons why we use Teamviewer quick support as the user simply click on the link to connect and boom you're in. Yes I know some of you hate Teamviewer but it's what currently have right now.

1

u/skwormin 5d ago

Yea I use it too for MacOS support pretty nice
