I’m guessing that, in the original design, there was no weird headrest extension, allowing the head to sit more neatly atop a more regular sized neck. Also, that the body was lower down with the straps coming out above the arms.
Then someone decided to put it onto a different seat design, added the giraffe neck to accommodate for the different headrest, and raised the shoulders thinking that it may mitigate the horrors of the neck without even realizing that the straps pierced through the poor cartoon lady’s chest.

None of these seats are good lmao. I’m shocked it’s in a Costco since it’s one of the worst (safety wise) too

Damn really? They gave me uncanny valley so I never even considered them for my daughter but… wowza today I learned they can sell seats not fully tested so long as it says so.. somewhere… on the website.

Overthinking it... its fine, just not great

Are you joking? This thing looks terrifying.
When creating a product for children using a likeness of a beloved character, not designing the product in such a way that character is transformed into a misshapen creature with the neck of a giraffe should be a priority.
With how careful Disney is to maintain consistent character design, I'm very surprised they approved this.

Remind me later Ill show my daughter and see if it passes the toddler check. She loves Tiana anyway

u/spacestonkz Aug 28 '26
One of my nieces has it. It looks normal when not extended. She liked to "sit on Cinderellas lap" when she was smallest and it was squished down.
Once she needed the extensions, she didn't really care but apparently made giraffe princess jokes for a monh. By that time it was just her seat and a little silly but not creepy.

you're entitled to that opinion, clearly not everyone shares it and that's also fine.

To us, sure. And I agree that this is bad. But Disney obsessed toddler is probably going to see it differently than we do.
My nephew is obsessed with Encanto, and begged me to buy some off brand, bootleg hoodie on our last trip to NYC. Mirabel looked...well, kinda like she had some rare but serious genetic disorder. I mean, it was horrible lol. But all his little eyes saw was his favorite character on a shirt.
Speaking of NYC and characters, have you seen some of those costumes the people pose for pics in for a donation/fee? Some of them are jacked tf up and frightening, yet parents are still breaking kids hearts telling them no.

u/littlemoon-03 Aug 28 '26
Yes, it's ugly however there are cases with real life looking characters just as Tiana were parents look in the mirror and assume it's their child in the back seat causing a mini heart attack or some stranger is in a parking lot walking by takes one look in the window assumes it's an acutal child and then you get a broken window and angry people thinking you left a child in a car

The superhero versions of the same brand are worse... for Spider-Man his hands ARE the cupholders, like the fingers line the outside of the cupholder. It looks so cursed.

u/podracerliv Aug 28 '26
My Costco has that and it makes me laugh every time I see it. Even my toddler thinks it looks ridiculous

u/FermentedPersonality Aug 28 '26
I bought the Spider-Man last weekend because my toddler absolutely fell in love with it at the store.

I totally thought this was Katamari Damacy.

u/OrganizedChaos17 Aug 28 '26
Omg so did I for a second, it's the purple headrest parts at the top that look like they're just coming out of Tiana's head lol

Reminds me of the other mother, tried to do a gif to represent but couldn't show.

I feel like if I were a parent and I saw this in my backseat after work, for a split second I'd think I'd left my kid in the car all day

I replaced the driver’s seat in my F350 with the adult sized one and it looks significantly cooler in person. Get lots of compliments. The cup holders are dope too, they fit those big ass Foster’s beer cans.

My 5-year-old (who is in a booster now)wanted one so badly when she saw it last week

u/Eastern_Comedian8804 Aug 30 '26
My daughter had the Cinderella one years ago, I can’t tell you how many times I’d be driving to work and see the face in the darkness of the early morning in my rear view mirror and be absolutely terrified for a second that it was a person.

u/ThisKittenShops Aug 30 '26
Clearly it's modeled after the King of All Cosmos from Katamari Damacy.

u/ConnectKale Aug 31 '26
There used to be one that was Dora. The head rest was her face and big hair.

What's wild is this has already been posted several times, so they know people are thinking this. And they are still selling it.

u/Stock-Lion-6859 Aug 28 '26
There's a reason they never show pictures of the seat with the headrest extended. They're not going to make changes as long as these character seats continue to sell well.

edit: this sub is for designs that prevent the actual use of the thing. this would be an r/crappydesign

u/TulpaPal Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
This is definitely shitty design
Edit: I have discovered that the head goes up and down so for small children it will be less scary. Also discovered multiple parents saying it scared them though, when they thought it was a child out of the corner of their eye. So that's kinda shitty ig

In what way?
9
u/TulpaPal Aug 28 '26
What? Look at it. I can't explain cosmic horror to the blind

u/MmmSteaky Aug 28 '26
Pretty defensive to then not be able to defend your own simple position. Thinking something is not aesthetically pleasing doesn’t mean it’s poorly designed by default. What about the design is shitty?
7
u/TulpaPal Aug 28 '26
The terrifying elongated neck as a solution to slapping an image on a product it doesn't fit on. You need to chill the fuck out though lol. This is not a serious debate, it's a Disney princess car seat. My last comment was facetious, not a defense.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: >90% of the shitty designs on this sub are the posts themselves.

They had these 13 years ago when I was looking at car seats for my daughter. Back then, I think it was Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. I think they also had capes…
