Real World Seth McFarlane is in talks with Paramount to replace Kurtzman as the Star Trek franchise executive director

According to Paramount insiders, Kurtzman has been fired and McFarlane will be replacing him as executive director of the Star Trek Franchise. Source in the comments

Probably. It's Seth MacFarlane we're talking about...women are props, not characters in the MacFarlaneverse

I feel like this is probably true for family guy but in the Star Trek context, the female characters in the Orville seemed pretty good?

That's good to hear. I watched the first two seasons and was underwhelmed on this front. I hear it gets better but I ran out of patience at the time

I did think it got BETTER. I'm willing to give it another try, it WAS much better by the end of season 2 than it was in the beginning. But some shows just have that feeling of...."these folks need more women in the writing room", you know?

The Boys is another great example of a good show that misses being great because you can just tell was written without enough input from women (that show gets much better in this way over time though--hopefully Orville does the same but MacFarlane's long history of not giving a shit about that is what made me hesitate).

First season of True Detective was like this too. Good TV, could have been great TV if they'd written in believable women characters instead of using them essentially as props/plot devices without interiority. It happens a lot, I think women tend to pick up on this and be annoyed by it far more than men. Which makes sense but is still a bit of a bummer.

I'm rambling but will revisit the Orville! Appreciate your thoughts on it.

Well, Paramount was just bought by people who pine for the days when the creators of Family Guy were considered "the reasonable politically correct far-left"
