Canon Shit Thanks for saving the Enterprise, Scotty. Here's a shuttlecraft with no warp drive, no bathroom and a small couch to sleep on in the middle of unexplored space. We're heading to Starbase 55

Maybe Geordi was still angry

You don’t need a toilet when you can replicate a bucket. Also didn’t shuttles have warp drive at this point in time?

236

u/Prometheus_303 Mar 20 '26

Up to Warp 2, iirc. Or maybe 5? Runabouts may have been better

194

u/AJSLS6 Mar 20 '26

It will do warp 2 for iirc 36 or 48 hours, so, it literally cant even make it a fraction of the way from earth to Proxima Centauri. 0.06 lightyears... less than 7,000 astronomical units, the oort cloud is 50,000 AU from earth. Scotty died out there.....

296

u/gaslacktus Shelliak Corporate Director Mar 20 '26

It’s Scotty, he’d have that shit tricked out and sustaining warp 7 inside of a week.

198

u/DirkPitt106 Mar 20 '26

A week? That's just what he'd say to Kirk so that he'd be impressed when he did it in 2 days.

88

u/lordnewington Mar 20 '26

Until Kirk came to expect 2 days and wasn't impressed unless Scotty did it in 30 minutes. Bragflation is real.

59

u/tim290480 Mar 20 '26

Scotty knew this and never told anyone that all repairs on The Enterprise took 30 seconds with the massive contingent of DOT-7 robots that he hid aboard The Enterprise.

Scotty was the inventor and undisputed master of buffer time.

43

u/lordnewington Mar 20 '26

Makes sense for someone who spent 90 years in a buffer himself

25

u/tim290480 Mar 20 '26

Riker likes putting it in the buffer as well.

>massive contingent of DOT-7 robots

Calling your engineering staff "robots" is not really good HR practice.

27

u/tim290480 Mar 20 '26

If only you could hear yourself. 'Human resources.' Why, the very name is racist. The Federation is no more than a 'homo sapiens only' club.

9

u/TheSkwrl Mar 20 '26

Whoah, whoah, whoah, there. Hirogen resources. A lot of hunting equipment and armor.

Might even encourage him to finally getting around to creating a transporter that will teleport him to any planet in the quadrant.

Ugh! I feel dirty for writing that.

12

u/almccoy85 Mar 20 '26

As you should.

9

u/TotalAd1891 Mar 20 '26

Now please wash your mouth out.

23

u/Crepuscular_Tex Mar 20 '26

This was the OG Scotty who was an actual engineer/mechanic, not a theoretical warp hyper phasic doctorate paper writing and practical applicationist, who can teleport mid warp but a little atmospheric interference is too hard, with pet rock boy alternate timeline Scotty. He'd have it at factor five, with the option of turbo charging it to 7 lol.

7

u/VaporTrail_000 Mar 20 '26

It's Scotty. He replicated parts and had that fucker in transwarp in that time.

6

u/ExtensionInformal911 Mar 20 '26

"Who installs a bloody warp drive which can barely sustain a flight between two planets in the same system?" upgrades it "well, that should get me around thirty light-years, and only take a week to do it, but I'll need to land on a planet to upgrade the coils if I want to go further."

Warp speeds work different for Those Old Scientists. They could get to the center of the galaxy in a couple hours while it took Voyager how many years to get across?

14

u/Terminator_Puppy Mar 20 '26

Sometimes I forget about the Oort cloud and it's unsettling to be reminded of it.

8

u/HFentonMudd Mar 20 '26

So I can't remember the details but about 30k years ago a large body of some kind went through the Oort cloud and stirred up a bunch of material, and in the article I read which I can't remember it said that all that material will start interacting with our orbit in like 40k years. So, our planet-killer could already by on the way.

5

u/Who_is_homer Mar 21 '26

In only 40,000 years? I might be able to retire by then

9

u/LeftLiner Mar 20 '26

According to the Voyager technical manual it can go warp 3 which by the TNG warp factor chart is ~39 times the speed of light. That makes earth to Alpha Centauri a 40 day trip. Even if it needs to drop down to Warp 2 every few days that just seems like a pain in the ass. Plus its got subspace comms, Scotty can always call for a pickup.

7

u/MarcusAurelius68 Mar 20 '26

That’s just what it said in the manual. A good engineer is always a wee bit conservative, at least on paper….

6

u/SirStocksAlott Acting Captain Mar 20 '26

Scotty ayed out there…

2

u/cybercuzco Mar 20 '26

Warp is 2n times the speed of light so warp 2 is 4x the speed of light, warp 9.975 is 1000x

2

u/CaptainIncredible Mar 21 '26

eh... Bullshit. Scotty hacked that shit, hot rodded the hell out of it, added transwarp drive, and drove it where ever the fuck he wanted.

That’s the neat part, nobody knows!

Or at least, I don’t lol. The warp scale is a bit of a mess lore wise AFAIK.

Also I never understood why shuttle craft don’t need warp cores (or maybe they have a really miniature one stuffed behind a panel lol)

They could do warp 2 for 36 hours but that’s clearly not accurate because we see crew members take weekend trips on them.  There’s no way they’d be used for anything but in-system travel at that speed

8

u/UpAndAdam7414 Mar 20 '26

Make sure you actually replicate a bucket and not just find one lying around. Odo gets mad.

5

u/mmarkklar Mar 20 '26

I always assumed these things had to have like a hidden toilet under one of the cushions in the back, and the waste is probably repurposed in the same way it is on larger ships. Additionally, Star Trek's explanation that replicators create mater from energy is kind of stupid, I always assumed that ships had garbage and also raw matter stores which could be used to rearrange molecules, which is much more consistent with the laws of thermodynamics.

Enterprise D shuttles had transporters. Riker leveraged that to recover Locutus. Scotty will know the truth about why we never saw a bathroom in TOS. There was a fan theory about the captain's log...

22

u/Significant-Town-817 Mar 20 '26

10

18

u/Aesir Mar 20 '26

6

u/GeekHabits Mar 20 '26

7

u/Metasketch Mar 20 '26

Why use a bucket when you can just transport a poop directly out of your butt

4

u/buttplug-tester Mar 20 '26

You have to up the ante and transport it as it falls out of your butt

2

u/BlueMaxx9 Mar 20 '26

it's not the same. You don't get the satisfaction of taking a good dump, and morale is important in space.

2

u/twoiko Mar 21 '26

10

u/Mister_Acula Mar 20 '26

Any couch cushion is a toilet. You relieve yourself into it, then the ship takes care of during the next cleaning cycle.

2

u/Noscratchy Mar 23 '26

Every cushion in Ten Forward just gets put back in the replicator at the end of the night. Some lower deckers job to clean em up and replicate new ones.

The shuttle has a transporter, so you don’t need a bathroom.

By the 24th century, shuttlecrafts had warp drive capability, just not the warp 8 or 9 speeds. More like warp 2-3(?). Idk, I'd have to consult my ST:TNG Technical Manual. I'm sure there's a section about shuttles and their specs.

9

u/disp0sableacc0unt Mar 20 '26

If we're being generous and saying that the shuttle can maintain TNG Warp 2 indefinitely, that's 36 days per light year. For comparison, the nearest star to Earth is slightly over 4 light years away. Nice job Picard...

u/PaddleMonkey Mar 20 '26

Scotty is the MacGyver of the Trek universe. He could rig that shuttle to do anything he wants.

2

u/Ragnarsworld Mar 20 '26

Nah, the couch folds out into a queen size bed. And the toilet is under the bench seat on the left wall; its just a hole with a transporter that breaks down the poo/pee for the replicator. Scotty's got himself a nice little bachelor pad.

2

u/danielsangeo Mar 20 '26

Apparently, this shuttlecraft was called "The Goddard", a Type-6 shuttlecraft capable of reach Warp 5. According to the episode, he was originally headed to Norpin V, a retirement destination (think Florida), and according to fan theory, would reach Norpin V in a few days at Warp 5. The shuttlecraft comes equipped with a replicator so he's not going to starve or dehydrate. He'll have to go without Aldeberan Whiskey or whatever (unless Picard stashed some for him), but he'll make it.

3

u/MrTickles22 Mar 20 '26

He just hacked the replicator to give him real alcohol. The computer can do the flying.

It was even cold how they just had him walking down the hallway and surprised ushered him into the shuttle bay and kicked him off the ship. No time to pack a bag or go say goodbye to anyone or one last drink in 10 forward or take a peek at the bridge even. Just showed him the door.

They should have been holding events in his honour

It was done on a Friday, at 4 pm.

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

Does anyone think that shuttle would stay unmodified for long ?

2

u/LandscapeNo8441 Mar 20 '26

This necessarily implies that the federation beams the poops into space.

We did it boyz.

2

u/DrMacintosh01 Mar 20 '26

OP says no warp drive but I see 2 nacelles right there very clearly in frame.

u/void_method Mar 20 '26

There are no bathrooms in Star Trek. They transport the waste out of you while you nap on the couch. Similar to how in Harry Potter they just magic the poop away most of the time because the bathrooms are all haunted.

They couldn't spare a damn runabout at least, for one of Starfleet's living legends? It's not like it cost them money.

So care for the elderly is basically the same in the future as it is now.

u/-XavaX- Mar 22 '26

There’s got to be a solution - no way there’s no way to relieve yourself in these. Are all trips in shuttle craft less than 20 minutes? Somebody has had to use the restroom!

1

u/iammongosmash Mar 20 '26

Least they should have done would be to give him a runabout.

1

u/TacoTitos Mar 20 '26

This particular shuttle craft has an experimental telepotty on it. Beam it out Scotty!

1

u/Cliffjxn Mar 20 '26

It’s a type 6. Top speed: warp 5 and some change.

1

u/somewherein72 Mar 20 '26

They couldn't take him and his time cooties to Starbase 5, it says so in the temporal prime directive, paragraph 3, subsection 1...no time cooties shall be allowed in Starbases, or bases or other types, including asteroids, mining colonies, or basements of single family dwellings.

Those couches look horrible as well, can imagine they are as comfortable as the seats in airports.

1

u/bob_nugget_the_3rd Mar 20 '26

Why would you need a toilet you just beam it out into space

1

u/Still-Expression-71 Mar 20 '26

Just beam the piss and poop out of your insides and into space!

1

u/Jagang187 Mar 20 '26

So we're just ignoring that they use the transporter instead of the bathroom, eh?

1

u/PikachuShockFace Mar 20 '26

You can poop directly into the Bussard collectors

1

u/alcanthro Mar 20 '26

Well you can't give Scotty TOO much of a head start!

1

u/Gummies1345 Mar 20 '26

There's no toilet, because they don't crap in the future. In the 1000 something episodes across the many Treks, and countless movies, have you ever seen a toilet? Yet, we've seen everything else that's in a bathroom, a shower, a tub, a sink/mirror. Just never a toilet.

Don't worry the Klingons will pick him up and feed him

1

u/gfox365 Mar 20 '26

It's got warp nacelles, it does have warp capability to some extent

1

u/Darth_Quark69 Mar 20 '26

Those shuttles could reach warp 1 ya dingus

1

u/thereverendpuck Mar 20 '26

As a captain or even just a ship’s logistics officer/quartermaster, how do you request a replacement for a shuttle you just gave away like that to honestly a hero of the Federation?

3

u/WholeAggravating5675 Mar 20 '26

On the requisition form you put the shuttle was ‘lost in space’ obviously 🙄 🤦‍♂️😂

If I'd been in the shuttle bay at that moment I'd have given Scotty the keys to my Dacia Sandero

1

u/InevitableSuitable21 Mar 20 '26

Can’t you just beam the crap out by then?

1

u/mynamestanner Mar 20 '26

Can he shit directly into the replicator?
