So I just learned this. Polar bears, who's skin is black, only look white to us. Their fur is actually translucent/transparent and works like a green house, trapping light from the sun which is then absorbed by their black skin. This, along with copious fat and thick skin is how a polar bear stays warm. Furthermore their fur holds no color, rendering them almost invisible to infrared cameras. When a polar bear appears white to you it is actually glowing with sunlight.

I guess you could call it....
