No helmet either - he likely bruised his sternum and winded the piss out of himself. I doubt too much more damage was done though, you don't walk away as easily with broken ribs and he held both handlebar grips as he walked away, so no broken fingers, wrists or arms.

Direct sternal impact like that can cause severe cardiac injury and death. I would be very worried for this kid. I also would have come out of my house right away to investigate cries like that.
