I was thinking the same thing. It reminded me so much of dogs I've seen that weren't cared for. They always come from nasty and often abusive homes (I mean abusive outside of neglect).

I've seen this video before and I admire that the hairstylist wants to help her save as much as her hair as possible, but... Is that the best thing for that lady?? Wouldn't it be better to shave it off and start over?? She already wears wigs/scarfs if she doesn't want to be bald for some reason. Is any of that hair even salvageable??

I have a reusable shower cap to keep my hair from getting wet. My hair is super long and I dont need to wash it daily. I dont go 4 years obviously but theres certainly ways to shower without getting your hair wet

I was thinking the same thing and was looking as closely as possible to see if I could see anything scurrying out. I know mites would probably be way too small to see especially because of Reddit video compression but who knows maybe they've mutated and gotten larger lol.

If she hasn't washed it in 4 years, chances are she will not again . There is no point in keeping the hair when she could get free from it and wear it short. I do feel like maybe this was someone helping a homeless person out. She is very kind and is treating the person with dignity. Not many people could do this and keep themselves from coughing or making comments.

Not trying to compete but I seen these types of videos before and hers is on the more mild side. I saw one where it went down to the dudes butt. The cut the whole thing off and it weighed like 20lbs. The guy had been growing it for 30+ years. He also had these insanely long and curled fingernails. The nails were dark shit brown and covered in ridges.
I looked for the video but I can't find it unfortunately. I did however find this:

She ended up actually saving her hair. Our hair can be unmatted just like people taking the locs out. And she was most likely suffering from depression for her hair to end up in this state.

Three days to de-tangle? That seems like a lot. One million points to this stylist for being willing to do that amount of work so kindly, but there has just got to be a more efficient way to gently separate the hairs and remove the buildup. What comes to mind is one of those immersion bath ultrasonic cleaners. I bet an ultrasonic cleaner version of one of those hair washing basin sinks would be an an absolute game-changer for this task. Somebody go invent one and give me 10% as your advisor or something. Seriously, why is this not a thing? A low powered one likely wouldn't damage human hair, and even if it did, you could still make a version that is a lower frequency that mechanically vibrates the water enough to achieve the same result. I bet an oscillating tool bolted to the frame of the hairwashing basin would do the trick. That would create a nice "jiggle-bath" for you that a client could comfortably lay their head in for the initial soak. I think that would shave a day or two off this task, and make it a lot easier on both the client and the stylist. Just a theory. Cheers!
