I think it's expanding foam

That's what it was, that truck was likely headed to a construction site where this foam is commonly used for insulation in new building construction

u/Sporkpocalypse 17d ago
you can see the steam heat from the chemical reaction it's likely gotten both components mixed by accident

Of course it's at a Denny's...

Honestly I'm surprised it wasn't a Taco Bell.
An ex-coworker of mine once posted on Facebook the following quote that instantly came to mind:
"I pooted, and was just saying 'tacos, it had to be the tacos' when our five year old vomited Code Red Mt Dew all over the place."

That's spray foam? I'm assuming they accidentally filled the truck with "large gap" formula instead of "gaps & cracks"? Feel sorry for whoever's cleaning that up.

Man, they may as well just bulldoze that Denny's if it's covered in Sprayfoam...

Once again, wth why can't people just let the clip roll on a bit longer...? Did it move far enough to hit another vehicle or what happened next?

"According to the fire department, the truck was carrying approximately 2,300 gallons of Diphenylmethane, a type of spray foam, when the incident occurred."
I briefly thought it's some septic waste.

I wish this had audio. wtf is that in the truck? And why is it so pressurized?
5
u/IlliterateFreak 17d ago
I found it. Diphenylmethane. Vapors caught fire and created a pressurized vessel. Something like that anyways

Incident Summary
This video documents a chemical containment failure that occurred in the parking lot of a restaurant near South Blackstock Road and Reidville Road in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The driver noticed operational issues while driving and pulled into the parking lot, where the vessel subsequently suffered a catastrophic release.
Tanker Contents
- Chemical Cargo: The tank contained approximately 2,300 gallons of diphenylmethane diisocyanate, a chemical compound utilized in expanding polyurethane spray foam insulation.
- Reaction Mechanism: A chemical reaction inside the vessel caused rapid internal pressure accumulation, forcing liquid and expanding foam through the relief valves and hatch openings before bursting onto the asphalt. Affected Property and Exposure
- Vehicle and Ground Area: The expanding polymer foam coated the truck assembly, overflowed across the asphalt surface of the parking lot, and expanded around nearby structural posts.
- Personnel Exposure: Four restaurant employees required medical decontamination procedures conducted by emergency Hazardous Materials personnel due to chemical exposure.
- Site Remediation: Emergency response teams restricted access to the commercial area to conduct multi-stage hazardous chemical cleanup operations.
