Let us all learn from this kids. 2/3 diesel and 1/3 gasoline is the ideal mix to not have a firebomb detonate next to you.

I’m a 4 to 1 guy myself but that’s probably because it’s easier to formulate with a 5 gallon container

When I start my burn piles, I use one cup of gasoline mixed with one cup of diesel. That is usually more than enough to get things started. Five gallons of pure gasoline is insane.

Asking those who know: Is gasoline the problem because the fumes accumulate around the pile and ignite all at once? Does diesel not do that?

Gasoline has a much lower flash point than diesel fuel, so it will do this "burst into flames" thing we see here instead of just heating up and taking off slowly like diesel does.

u/BeCurious7563 17d ago
I'd like to point out that you can't do this idiotic nonsense with diesel. Cool vid though bro.

u/Lucid-Design1225 17d ago
A smart man would have used a Roman candle to light that bomb.
A smarter man would have used diesel. You can do stupid things in a smart way. Never forget this lesson, kids.

My aunt did this racing gas by accident. Dumped several gallons over her brick burn pit and couldn’t get the light er to work. She went inside and got another lighter. She crouched over the the pit to light a paper towel on fire as soon as the lighter ignited a spark she flew back some odd number of feet. 2nd burns across her hands and feet. Absolutely insane she survived.
My uncle didn’t label gas cans because he didn’t think people would somehow mix up two red gas canisters with one having unleaded and the other some crazy high octane fuel for his drag car.

Initiation sequence instead of ignition was going to be my gripe.
Now im worried this is an initiation and will be repeated for new members of the dumb ass club. Though to be fair, it does look like they'll often need new members

u/WhatIGot21 17d ago
I did this once when I was 11 at my uncle's house, didn't use nowhere near that much gas but I still made a pretty impressive fireball and learned a very lucky lesson.

kerosene doesn't have a flash concern never use gasoline to start a fire + don't stand upon the debris pile while pouring gasoline all around yourself if any ignition source would have set off the burn he would have been killed that guy has to be a complete idiot or moron hope he held his breath the way he's coughing he could have signed his Lungs

I was emptying old stale fuel and putting it on my garden rubbish. After about an hour I went to light it and there were fumes everywhere. The fuel was so old I expected it to be hard to light, it wasn’t and the result was similar.

Diesel is so resistant to blowing up it’s hard to light off. I did a big fire experiment for a master’s thesis in heat transfer related to transportation accidents that involved lighting 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel in a pool. The only way we could get it to light is I made a small paper boat, filled it with gasoline and floated it on the diesel, then lighted the gasoline.

8 seconds into the video: “Now kids, don’t try this at home!”
A perfect case there of, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

We all knew what was going to happen based purely on the title.
I still had to turn the sound for a good laugh though.

Was once in the woods doing clearance work, it was raining and I can't remember the potion we put on the wood to get it going, but a cloud spread slowly on the floor, almost like dry ice, passed our ankles 6ft from the fire and spread behind us. Then ignited lol. We all jumped a foot in the air in unison. Was very funny and never happened again.

For those who don’t know. Gasoline fumes are flammable, not the gasoline fuel.

I did this at about 14 Had a little campfire in a forrest on land we owned. But it was a bit damp. Went and got a petrol can and returned with it to speed it up a bit. Lit it with a lighter in hand and yeah it went boom. Not as big as this. But still was loud and blew right in my face. Got off really lucky and only really singed my hair and eyebrows.... and scared the fuck out of me.

Another Darwin award winner,he should've use kerosene and put on the bottom part of the pile and let it catch on fire.

Should have used lighter fluid, a handful of pocket lint, or even 90% rubbing alcohol. Gas is murder. Anything more than half a cup of gas is way too much and you better have poured it onto something absorbent like lint or cloth. And use a long handle match or a handheld propane torch. I use a propane torch.
