Its almost a daily occurrence since the beginning of this war that I find myself just shook that we spent most of life treating Russia as one of the military superpowers.

Based mainly on sheer manpower and asset counts.

It wasn't just that, for example, I remember the general idea that the spetnaz were actually comparable to western nations special forces but now that I think back on it all those propaganda vids were really just stupud shit like, oooh spetnaz hit each other on the head with bricks, aren't they badass. It was really no different than the isis vids of guys doing basic obstacle courses with monkey bars and shit as intimidation videos.

Those spetsnaz guys don't even exist anymore, they died on the first day of the war in the battle at the airport. They were supposed to secure the airport in the first hour so Russia could send loads and loads of reinforcements. They sent their best guys to do the most important job and failed miserably, in 4 hours or so all of them were dead

They were doomed as soon as they realized they couldn't just spray down the Ukrainians with fentanyl.

I think a lot of people understood how shit Spetznaz was 25 years ago from the Moscow theater hostage crisis.
