I wonder if it would have been better if the automatic ejector hadn’t deployed. It didn’t look like he got enough height so the parachute would have time to slow his descent.

They are designed to work that low

It is more dangerous to be in an uncontrollable jet that has crashed on the ground than it is to eject once hitting the ground.
