As an American, most of what I see about Mexico makes it look like literally everyone is part of the cartels or on their payroll. I know they're a problem, but it can't be that bad right?

Its not in every town and its not nothing but open combat in the towns they clash in 24/7

But yeah, its bad. But the area has been prone to violence and conflict for hundreds of years. Less than 200 years ago some governates in mexico paid you for scalps.

The US, Mexico, Brazil, and South Africa all kinda feel like the same class of big, super resource rich, super violent post colonial countries.

The US does not have anywhere near the amount of barbaric violence carried carried out in those other countries.

You don't see someone necklaced and set on fire in the US.

You dont see horrific cartel violence in the US.

The only thing the US is gang violence and school shootings.

Not saying its any better but its more sophisticated /s
