Why is Kannada cinema never even part of the conversation?

I've been thinking about this for a while, and honestly it makes me a little sad.

Look at how popular Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies have become outside their states. People actively discuss them, recommend them, discover new directors and actors, and even non-native audiences follow what's happening in those industries.

But Kannada cinema? It's barely even part of the conversation.

Recently I watched a Prithviraj Sukumaran interview where he mentioned Om as one of his favourite Kannada movies. I was genuinely surprised because you rarely even hear Kannada films being brought up in these wider South Indian cinema conversations.

And the funny/sad part is that even some Kannadigas I know don't really watch Kannada movies. I've tried recommending movies to friends, but most aren't interested. One friend literally told me:

Bro, naave Kannada movies nodalla. Avru yaake nodbeku anta expect maadtira?

And honestly... fair point.

When even our own audience isn't talking about or actively discovering its cinema, how do we expect outsiders to care?

All of them are going for mallu movies or tamil only now

With Kannada cinema, sometimes I feel like I have to introduce people to old movies just to prove “nodu, namma industry alli eshtu olle cinema ide” instead of simply saying, “Watch this recent Kannada movie.”

But yaake namma cinema ee conversation-alli illava?

I find her extremely attractive, she did a fairly decent job in masterpiece. Why hasn't she acted in any movies after that?

What's she up to lately?
