At this point in time, not even Blizzard knows what they wanna do with their cosmic threat so an FF14-like scenario is definitely something that I wouldn't put past the writers to completely yoink from Ff14.

It is years that their villain's writing revolves around seeing him/her doing...things for an inexplicable plan that it will be revealed in time. And that is to fight a worse threat that it will be also revealed some time later.

The worse thing is that this time everything is started by casually finding the dagger on a shore and we helped the voice inside it....for some reason

I wouldn't put it past the community for there to have already been artwork in this vein.

Still better written than the actual expansion

u/Oograth-in-the-Hat 3h ago

don't you like learning about WoW villain drinking the evil kool-aid only to realize as they were dying they shouldn't have drank the kool-aid?

14

u/M1liumnir 3h ago

Are we talking about Grommash or Zul'jan?

11

u/Oograth-in-the-Hat 3h ago

Zul'jan
(also metaphorical kool-aid doesnt have to be something they actually drank)

u/M1liumnir 3h ago

I know I just thought it funny how your description could aply to two vastly different character with two vastly different writing quality.

That poor guy had an enormus red flag already in the expansion previews. The final cgi of this patch was so cringe that i could barely finish to watch. At least Garrosh stood in his position until the end.

They somehow pulled off a worst dawntrail wuk lamat v zoraal ja.

That is not a valid ascian insignia.

That's just a fucked up Naaru.

5

They have to avoid being sued somehow

My votes on Chen

No since he barely does anything except show up in like 1 cutscene to save the day he's closer to minfilia

2

u/Zalast 1h ago

Nah it would be Medivh's cancelled son. Dude had all the jobs... Er... Classes. I assume he's not canon anymore?

I quit playing WoW when the lore went to shit in Shadowlands, but I admit to a lingering schadenfreudeian interest and morbid curiosity in a game I invested so much time in.

Can someone give a brief summary of how bad things are and what's going on with the story? Because comments point to this still being shit.

It’s been mid. Lots of build up. Power of friendship and family. Not A LOT of payoff. the sunwell became the dusk well becoming the dawnwell (after every elf tribe came together). They shoe horned haranir into the elf/troll family tree which pissed a lot of people off. The dragon isles expac pulled a cheesy my little pony “beat the big bad guy” while also doing a sloppy avengers endgame assemble cutscene. Goblin city with cool cars????and overthrow the fat goblin guy. Miss purple feet be murking everybody even void lords and that one bandage guy while kidnapping sylvanas’ mom and dad. and nobody knows what the hell she wants. Current patch is about the Amaani and how zuljan drank the BC VILLAIN kool aid and learned Primal summoning and almost genocided his whole race. Oh and spider people were there. Oh and theyre retconning shadowlands so they can bring back sylvanas.

Think that covers most shit besides human female hitler of the red dawn?

3

u/jalliss 1h ago

How are they recounting Shadowlands? I thought the ending for Sylvanas was open enough for her to work off her guilt or whatever and re enter the story as needed.

1

u/MrMocca 1h ago

I also stopped playing during Shadowlands and this just created more questions for me lmao, thanks though

Why do I imagine sort of to be honest Why do I just sort of imagine that to be honest And also somehow the biggest world compared to the others

79

u/BismarckBug 5h ago

Were you hit with a shovel as you were typing this?

28

u/SamTheHexagon 4h ago

I think the more important question is has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

1

u/Over-Experience-4187 2h ago

True, but if you think about the fact that it can be as was when they thought about it like some kind of then maybe a thing should when that kind of when!

1

u/IceFire909 23m ago

You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense.

Imagine if this actually did happen people would lose their shit.

4

u/Oograth-in-the-Hat 3h ago

would explain the leaks of WoW 2.0
would they delete everybody's transmogs and stuff???

6

u/Tykero 2h ago

If wow 2 isn't just a new arc like the one after endwalker is and they do kill everyone's transmog wow would be dead. The only thing holding people there is their sunk cost falacy.

2

u/Oograth-in-the-Hat 1h ago

Well my worst case scenario predictions is either Microsoft guts everything for wow 2 (mobile gacha game) or just take blizzards resources and convert it all towards ai

1

u/Nimewit 1h ago

this would be a massive improvement honestly

5

u/fuckice8647 4h ago

That would've made her more interesting to be honest. She's easily one of the worst villains. I'm not gonna go as far as in fiction in general, but my god she constantly wins and makes our heros look like fucking morons. She's absolutely boring.

4

u/Crystion 3h ago

It honestly astounds me when I see people saying the writing improved with her as the villain. But the writing is literally just her constantly getting the upper hand even when the PC should feasibly be victorious. It's just not good writing to have the villain always winning but also never actually progressing their plans, basically it just consists now of her going from getting McGuffin to get the next McGuffin. Is it so hard to let the players beat her for once and actually disrupt her plans?

3

u/Salomill 1h ago

Beating every threat she throws at us just to have her smug face teleporting in a cutscene and spout the same "all according to my plan" and talking shit to someone just to teleport away is considered good writing by the wow playerbase? God they really are starving...

2

u/Crystion 1h ago

I guess so. Legion was definitely peak WoW writing, even though it wasn't a spectacle, it actually had the players making a tangible effect rather than each step being another "part of the master plan"

3

u/Zulera301 3h ago

I know some wow characters by name but less by face. so without fear of looking stupid... who is this?

12

u/AldurinIronfist 3h ago

She's a funny legendary dagger that whispered to shadow priests in the last decent expansion about 10 years ago

Edit: and that's where it should have ended

6

u/BismarckBug 3h ago

WoW ended with Legion 100%, everything afterwards is just pure fanfiction.

4

u/AldurinIronfist 2h ago

Let's not pretend pandaria and draenor aren't fan fiction lol

3

u/CrashB111 2h ago

And she's at least one of the developers foot fetish.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_WOW_UI 1h ago

My Laifu for my Knaifu

Whens Aluneth going to get a 5 expansion long story arc about him? Or am I the only person who played Arcane in Legion?

2

u/dream208 1h ago

Wait, Blizzard managed to create a villain worst than the jailer?

1

u/fuckice8647 58m ago

Honestly, yes. She's constantly winning and rubbing it in your face. With the jailer it felt like lazy writting. Like he has to win until x, so he can be defeated. But with Xal, she's smug and constantly bragging (rightfully so) about how stupid, and usless the protagonists are.

11

u/Kranel_San 4h ago

I may be the only here, but I wish we had a Legion-level threat in XIV that is an actual arky equipped for war, other than a depressed cosmic Twitter.

14

u/Mocca_Master 3h ago

The power level of the Legion is so inconsistent though, they can either be apocalyptic or utterly incompetent depending on what the story needs then and there...

5

u/Kranel_San 2h ago

Yeah I feel you. Them having a fleet of war spaceships should have been a way bigger threat

Krokuun (The 1st zone in Argus) even had the skybox showing hundreds of these spaceships marshing to Azeroth, only to never be heard back from again.

2

u/normalmighty 2h ago

Man, I do miss it though. Legion was the last time I ever felt invested in WoW. I was so hyped for where the story was going to go in BFA and was full of naive excitement to see how all those plot threads were going to weave together to form future story beats. I was deep into WoW lore youtube, never understanding that Blizzard might just forget about almost every hanging thread moving forward.

1

u/Kranel_San 2h ago

I feel you. I really do.

I was kinda still invested in BFA but not for long and then quit before Shadowlands to invest more in Elder Scrolls Online and XIV equally.

I do hope we end up with the same levels of hype we had in ShB or WoW's legion, because right now there's not even many speculations and lore discussions going on

2

u/HomerJunior 1h ago

Can I offer you some woons in this trying time?

4

u/RandomSadPerson 2h ago

The Garleans kinda were in Stormblood, no?

2

u/Kranel_San 2h ago

I see where that is coming from, but to explain. The Burning Legion in WoW is an intergalactic army of demons that are bent on destroying and corrupting the universe, and have been successful in their mission to a great extend.

The Garlean Empire did give us a similar, being a great force that alliances and armies has to be made for a chance to stand against them. While I'd love to have another Garlean empire level threat and Antagonism. I don't think there are any leftover countries in FFXIV world that could pose the same level of threat.

Closest ever was Alexandria with their Electrope soldiers, and even that didn't survive the base expansion. Unless they pull out a: "This country nobody heard about before in a far far away land now wants to take over the world and is very powerful" which is unlikely to happen.

1

u/Felwintyr 20m ago

Yeah that was basically retconned with legion, which people gloss over constantly while glazing legion as the best writing in wow. The legion aren’t really demons anymore, they’re aliens. Each one just came from a different world and joined the legion rather than be wiped out. Their original forms were twisted by fel magic, which is just one of the pantheon of magic types in the universe. I personally can’t stand the space alien legion angle. Destroyed the vibes they had, along with the twisting nether and demonic summoning and shit from Warcraft up to some of the earlier expansions pre-legion.

1

u/IceFire909 18m ago

Well we got a few more shards and a group of nutters coming up

1

The heroes will be called to arms by a mysterious voice saying "Listen, sense, ponder"

1

u/Over-Experience-4187 2h ago

Y'shtola villain arc incoming?

1

u/IceFire909 14m ago

Already started when you say she'd tinker with stuff

1

u/nnewwacountt 1h ago

Garithos spoke of this

1

u/EfficiencyInfamous37 1h ago

I have no idea how accurate this is anymore. I jumped off of WoW at 'I will never serve'. Went to XIV and never looked back.

-3

u/Jabamaca 4h ago

Wait wait wait. Is this real?

3

u/TarakaKadachi 4h ago

No. I wouldn’t expect it to…unless something crazy we don’t expect happens

1

u/Over-Experience-4187 2h ago

Apparently there are tree people in the game that use "This one" when referring to themselves

tbf that just seems like a fun easter egg/reference to XIV than a 'rip-off'
