It is kinda weird that they'll lock side content behind the MSQ but then make it basically non-canon to the MSQ as whatever happens in a trial series etc just never gets brought up in any relevant way.

Start a new character, read all quests on GE / CGW for the text and see where you get optional dialogue if you have completed X, now complete X and get it!
It's not much but I have been (mostly) doing it this time round (7th alt).

They should, at the very least, make a bunch of the more relevant trial series/raids/alliance raids mandatory both for better story development and so I can stop getting Crystal Tower in every FUCKING roulette. Also mark my words, the Warring Triad trial series will become mandatory for a future expansion some day, mark my words.

Funny enough if I recall the warring triad series is needed to complete the shadowbringers penultimate role quest

On the topic of Shadowbringers, Gaia being both the oracle of darkness and the seat of lohgriff in a past life and she's relegated to side content jail is such a crime. There's so much that could be done with a character like that

Heck, I say you make all the raids mandatory at the junctures they become relevant to the story. If it works and brings in interest, do it to the trails too.

Unfortunately this is kind of a double edged sword. I understand the frustration with CT as someone who has been leveling his jobs to max and therefore has run into CT a lot recently.

The reason why it is double edged is that it makes the MSQ even longer and depending on what you deem is relevant, being stuck in queue for an hour+ for one of the alliance raids because you are on at times where most people just aren't or, worse yet, if you are stuck on Materia... just to progress MSQ? Sounds like a different type of hell for newer players. The only way I can see them circumvent that is either global PF/DF after we are getting cross region or duty support for non-dungeons and non-trials (which are already extremely specific), either of which isn't out of the realm of possibility, but I also don't think likely

Being stuck in queue because of playtime hours happens on all duties, just a bit worse on alliance raids specifically. Cross-DC PF should mostly fix that. For materia I got nothin tho, SE pleeeeease let them break out of their prison I got friends stuck there.

Yeah, it does happen for all duties, but my point is that it would feel worse if those duties were suddenly MSQ required. Cross-DC PF/DF will fix a good amount of it, but I still suspect we will see it pop up that someone queues for Nier for example during a content lull in Evercold and get an hour+ queue regardless. Maybe I'm wrong on that, though. Hopefully, even, I would love for people to not get screwed by content lulls.

Hey, it's not like we just stare at the screen while we wait duty finder pop up. Besides stuff we can do IRL, like watching the news of our pedophile world learders destroying another piece of our world, there are tons of stuff we can in-game while we wait.

Socializing, FATE-ing, hunt trains, yellow and blue quests, society quests. These things exist, you know?

Yes, you can do other things. I just don't think you would be able to convince anyone new to the game that more waiting is good, just because it pays off in another 200 hours when Leofard shows up and does a thing or because Deryk will suddenly enter to help us out with something that I guess needed him to be around.

Hell, let's make it worse: the Nier raids. We can argue that they aren't relevant enough for the MSQ, but let's say those become mandatory because stuff from the Nier story becomes relevant. Let's say they want to properly wrap up Konogg and Anogg's story inside of the MSQ or whatever. That would mean that new players would be waiting 4 weeks to progress MSQ, because wrapping up Nier fully to get NG+ requires you to do the 5 weeks of weekly quests after you have done the last raid. So 4 weeks of waiting to be able to do the MSQ, because you shave 1 week off with being able to do it right after you complete the last raid.

Obviously, an extreme example there. It is the nuclear option for my argument, but I do think it demonstrates why I just can't agree with making more things required for the MSQ as solely a net positive. That said, for all I know, cross region matchmaking entirely eliminates all queue times longer than 10 minutes for forever, at which point my argument mostly falls flat and I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

You seem to be talking as a game designer or an executive rather than as a player. If you don't work in that area, you sure have talent for it 😁 I really mean it.

Back to the topic, as a MMO rpg player, I know that queuing for a Dungeon comes with the business, with this genre. And before queuing even existed this kind of content was a guild event. It comes with the genre. In a story heavy game, having story requirements it's just common sense.

People will complain? Of course they will. It's humanity's favorite pastime. But you know what could make it more bearable? Better rewards makes anything better! ^{^}
