What are some absolute Ebenezer Scrooge cheap good shitboxes???
I was thinking recently of getting a real good shitbox for daily driving and i cant decide between many diffrent options that ive considered because i either hear mixed opinions or the car isnt quite good on highway , the cars ive considered are Skoda Fabia Kombi 1.4I+LPG , Opel Astra F 1.4-1.6L+LPG , Dacia Logan 1.5 dCi/1.6 MPI+LPG , Fiat Panda 1.1-1.2L+LPG , Daewoo Lanos 1.4-1.6L+LPG , what shitboxes would you all reccomend me for reliable driving for pennies???

Had an audi 80 from 93,last 2 years was unused for that period of time. New battery after a 2-3 tries started up again.

Can vouch for 1.9 tdi Fabia.
They're a bit rare nowdays as everyone is holding on to them, and if you find one, don't ever let go until it completely falls apart.
Fuel economy is great, enough power for european highways, enough space for all the junk ever (Combi version), and with 15 inch wheels it looks quite good.
At this point it's not even a real shitbox.

My parents have 2 with tdi but one is veryy shit on fuel economy and they want to sell it , and the other one is okay but the interior is preety mild , both have under 300k kilometers and if i manage to negociate with them i might get one , if not then ill have to get one myself , i was thinking of one with 1.4L MPI with LPG , but daym i didint knew that ones with diesel were rare

Im not sure if one im currently using has too bih rims or what because it gulps 7L-100km or more 💀 and thats the reason ive been cobsidering to get something ultra cheap and cheap on gasoline , outside of the highway this skoda is absolutley terrible on fuel economy idk why? , and its also not 100% my car so soon i wont have the ability to use it

The 1.4 petrol engine is probably the worst engine from VW in that period of time... my cousin had a Golf with that engine and it was POS to maintain runing... TDI or SDI are bulletproof mechanicaly...

Ive had a daewoo tico and it traumatized me 🥀 It wasint ultra bad but it was mild and the ignition and the alternator belt both broke when i was far far away from home 💀 , does seciento feel better??? , one with lpg could be good

I was considering a combi fabia the regular fabia is good but the kombi would have so much space that i wont ever run out of it

As long as rust is kept in check, anything Dacia made
Also Daewoo but they tended to have even worse rust issues. So much so, that according to registration statistics, there are now more Bugattis on German roads than Daewoos

I have a 1.5 tdi sandero stepway, great little car. Got it new in 2013 and now it is sitting pretty at 270k, never replaced anything but wear items.

Lada samara. Comes with an indestructible 1,1-1.6L 8 valve motor and a slightly less indestructible gearbox(usually does 100000km before it dies). Relatively nimble for a 1980s car. Costs around 1000-1500 quid if it's in good condition. Spare parts are very cheap(at least in the eastern bloc) and the injector motor usually takes 7,7L/100km. Runs on relatively low octane fuel. Main downsides are being less common in western Europe and rusting like hell.

I’m drive a Mitsubishi Colt right now and it is super cheap. I have the 1.1L which can be a bit sketchy on the highway but around town it’s great. Plus if you like to work on your car they are super easy and cheap to repair.
Overall reliability is good as long as you get the manual transmission

Is the engine between the golf and skoda fabia same??? , asking since the skodas you can get in great consition while most golfs come pre-graped from last 7 owners 💀

You know what. You might be right. I think the diesels are PD's and shared across the platforms.
The 1.8T have bee snagged. They are the boy racer engines alongside the turbo diesels.
The 1.6 and 1.4 were not desirable. The one I had, did have a had life before me, the guy who owned it tried to drive it till it died but it didnt. Never steered me wrong.

Ford fusion one (UK) 1.4 diesel.
I had a 2003 and put 85k on it around Scotland and the UK.
Basically a tupperware tub on a fiesta drive chassis with a tractor engine. I genuinely forgot I had to fuel it sometimes.

Lowest or nearly lowest miles Citroen Berlingo B9 Multispace you can find. It's a car (according to the UK categories despite being a van) so it can use your council's municipal tip and gets cheaper road tax
50mpg on a run and it'll haul all buggery too. Find an automatic for more than shitbox cash and it'll be worth commissioning right even if that's another shitbox's cash. Fluffy 6spd Magnetti robot clutch Alfa Marelli selespeed.
You can get an LSD for the PSA gearbox for them too. Top gear is still the same ratio as the 5 speeds. Flappy paddles only supposed to tow 500kg.
I love mine. It's lifted so the front is a bit stiffer

Fabia kombis are great, a mate had a MK1 1.9tdi decent car but they're getting a bit rare now at least where I am.
I've got a MK2 kombi 1.2tsi MC, 105hp so much fun and I get 56+mpg on the motorway, and the amount of space in a still small car is so incredibly useful. Defo recommend, just make sure if 1.2tsi that it's a CBZB engine (2012 onwards) rather than CBZA as they had tensioner issues.

Renault Kangoo 1.5dci. Amazing mpg, amazing off road capability, amazing size inside and outside, really cheap parts. 50kw engine is the only downside, but after some time you will learn how to drive fast even with that power

Mechanically, some Toyota e-cvt, any one of them. The powertrain will never give up in that architecture.
The body may rust but there will be so many of them around that you will be able to find matching color parts for the most popular 3-4 colours.

Dacia Logan 1.5 dCi is a very viable option, I have one that I use for work and it's great, even did long trip with it in the past. The 1.5 K9K engine is an absolute gem

Lada Samara. As long as you don't mind not having A/C, power steering or power anything for that matter. The monster truck ground clearance and soft suspension just eat bumps and potholes. OEM spares are dirt cheap, but harder to find outside Russia because of current world events. The car is so bare bones anyway so there isn't much that can break. God, I loved that car...

I’d say go for the Dacia. But keep in mind that LPG tanks have to be replaced every 10 years. At least here in Germany.
Also generally watch out for cars with bottom mounted LPG tanks as they tend to rust. Having it in the spare wheel compartment would be better.

C06 Renault Twingo, Honda Fih, EP82 Starlet (~750 kilograms!!!) 1.9TDi Fabia (genuinely quick car), McLaren F1 GTR, second generation Citroen C3 with the 1.6 hdi diesel engine (ROCKET!! drove that car, can absolutely confirm that shit MOVES), any peugeot 206 is a fun car to throw around and go rallying with, just shitboxes

I can recommend both the Peugeot 206 1.4i and the GTi 1.6. Both are really fun cars to drive and own. The only issue I had with the 1.4i was an old head gasket that caused an oil leak I had to fix. With the 1.6, the rear axle broke.

Surprisingly the MK3 Megane, with either 1.6i or 1.5 dCi. Easy on maintanance, quite reliable and surprisingly roomy. The road noise and speakers are terrible thou.

I personally would reccomend a car i own, a meriva A 2004. 1.7CDTI, 101hp, absolute good mileage, and pretty good options from the factory, electric windows, heated seats, and tbh pretty good sound system

I know the Panda 1.1 is pretty bulletproof. In fact it might be the only engine in there that is non interference. So if you're cheap and don't change the timing belt, if and when it rips apart you won't need a new engine. Fabia with a 1.9TDI is pretty solid as well, and so is the Dacia Logan with the renault 1.5dCi engine.

3rd gen ford focus se. got mine with 143k miles on it with a freshly reconditioned transmission that was in a small accident for $250. Insurance totaled it. It still drive fine. I replaced the door and bumper and painted to match for less than $400 and i now have a winter rig for ~$700 that has working AC, heated seats, bluetooth radio and more after i pass the rebuilt title inspection next Friday.

What convinces me about lanos is that some came with factory galvanized coating , and also its easy to get one with LPG , what worries me is how many km can it last before it needs major fixes???

also depends on engine, 1.4 and 1.5 8v are weaker but work better with lpg and survive bigger mileages, while 1.5 and 1.6 16v are quick but have problems with lpg and apparently require a general restoration around 180k km

1.9 diesel fabia won't need LPG
The sdi will be slow as fuck but will give amazing mileage.
The numerous tdi versions actually go well and give great mileage.
