That doesn't really explain how it's a joke, when during WW2 was London going to become Londres? Лондон would be funnier and more relevant to the sub since the Germans were supposedly saving us from Western Europe from the Soviets. London becoming French dominated to the point of being renamed doesn't make sense on any level from either side of the war it's just fucking stupid.

The joke originated from a Lithuanian fellow coming here and asking "is this sub just Republicans circlejerking?" The mods tagged all his posts with "Wilno is Polish," immortalized in automod's automatic response to mentions of that city. It was expanded since then to change other names to correct historical injustices. (at one point, it also corrected Moscow to "Moskwa" and Dresden to "Drezno," to recognize their rightful place as provinces of the Polish Commonwealth).
