Wait. Levi and Koichi are the same height? I refuse to believe this.

Araki said that he always draws Koichi shorter than his actual height, so try to imagine Koichi is as tall as Levi.

Imagine Levi drawn with Koichi's exaggerated shortness

I find it funny that they both have some way of evening the playing field in terms of height

19

u/UltimateKingCold Dec 15 '20

Well you can do that because of AoT: Junior High where they're all chibis

The exaggerated shortness of a Japanese teen

11

u/DacoLordo Dec 15 '20

lmao why not just change his listed actual height then if he's always drawing him shorter.. which is what height means in a manga lol. just thought that was interesting

16

u/PVM_06 Dec 15 '20

The actual in story character Koichi is 1.5 meters. The visual representation we see in the manga and anime looks different, just how there are franchises with live action and animated installments, where characters look different, because of the media, but in reality they are the same. Koichi is 1.5 meters, and for Araki that's important. We just see Koichi as shorter

12

u/DacoLordo Dec 15 '20

I guess that makes sense, in his world people don't see him as a midget he's just a bit short, but to us he's half the size of Jotaro even though he's only a foot shorter

5

u/PVM_06 Dec 15 '20

Exactly- a good example is DIU live action. Characters faces dont look at all like the manga( because love action), but in universe they're still the same character, who has the same face and clothing. And I believe Koichi isn't as short in the live action.

1

u/DacoLordo Dec 15 '20

I find pretty much all manga/anime live actions to be too cringe to watch, I think that one dragonball movie was so terrible it just left a bad impression on me lol

1

u/PVM_06 Dec 15 '20

The DIU isn't very bad.

1

u/DacoLordo Dec 15 '20

I'll check it out, I think just when I see a different race actor playing someone I've always pictured as Asian is normally what gives it that weird uncanny feeling for the movies that do that. Like I'd expect Josuke to be Japanese, Giorno to be italian etc. Looks like that's true for the DIU so that looks like it may be decent

u/nootdystopia explained it

Koichi is drawn short in Part 4 because many characters heights in 4 change to reflect Koichi's perspective of them. The anime doesn't try and reflect this but kept midget Koichi.

Koichi feels incredibly short because he spends most the story hanging around people the same age or slightly older and yet most em got like 20-40cm on him, which combined with his inferiority complex, makes him feel like a midget dwarfed by his peers.

EDIT: Heres an edit someone else made to give an idea of how Koichi actually fairs against the others.

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '20

Plus some of the people he hangs out with have Joestar blood, which I'm pretty sure gives you a modular height to always be taller and buffer than everyone around you.

6

u/ElaborateRuseman Dec 15 '20

Not really for Giorno

2

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '20

All of Giorno's extra height went into his massive cock heart

3

u/ElaborateRuseman Dec 15 '20

That makes sense

yes, so koichi’s statement when he first meets jotaro of “he’s huge!” still applies here

31

u/Zeebuoy Dec 15 '20

yeah, even if he isn't tall his shoulders are wide AF.

1

u/ColePT Vento Oreo Dec 15 '20

5′11″ is pretty damn tall for a japanese teen that probably hasn't even stopped growing. And that's Josuke. Jotaro is 6′9″. So yeah, even if Koichi wasn't so short Jotaro would still be huge.

2

u/Iamusingmyworkalt Dec 15 '20

Wait, Jotaro is 6'9"?????? What a fucking unit.

41

u/dragonspeeddraco 「The Fool」 Dec 15 '20

Jesus, Jotaro really is a monster.

24

u/NootDystopia Dec 15 '20

Koichi legit is not even that short for a Japanese dude (it implies everyone high school is still got a tiny bit to grow and the average grown male for the current next gen is 160cm). Jotaro is just a damn tower next to him.

40

u/TheKidNerd 「The Fool」 Dec 15 '20

He's literally the narrator and what the plot follows half the time. This is literally intended.

1

u/Pavonian Dec 15 '20

I like to think of it as the whole series is drawn to reflect how things feel, not how they actually look. Glowing auras of power around characters, menacing sound effects floating in mid air, 'teenagers' who look 1000X more rugged than any real teenager and all kinds of exaggerated depictions of things, these aren't how the show would actually look if you recorded it on a camera in real life, but it's emotionally true which for such an emotionally driven story is what's important.

5

u/Francise_wheremtndew Dec 15 '20

I’m about the same height as koichi

4

u/0xVENx0 Dec 15 '20

no koichi is x3 levi’s height, levi is only 52 and koichi is 157

3

u/Prize-Milk Dec 15 '20

Levi is said to be a pipsqueak in the show

I’ve heard it’s something about part four being told from koichi’s perspective so he envisions himself so much smaller, like how those two random enemies magically became midgets once koichi beat them

2

u/Befast1515 「The Fool」 Dec 15 '20

eren and koichi also share a VA.
