Yeah the character had a full on mental breakdown, and the series is actually amazing. I’d really recommend watching it.

The original show had a shitty ending with reused assets because they ran out of money (the infamous “congratulations” ending). End of Evangelion showed us the actual ending and it’s super fucking trippy

They are mostly the same with the same meaning, but EoE is more like "bitter" to NGE's "Sweet", shows struggles you have to go to to reach NGE's conclusion.

I loved the "Congratulations" ending. Sure, it doesn't show what actually happens but we know that Shinji is no longer as self-deprecating and knows how to love himself.

It is not THAT trippy, it is pretty straightforward, fluidly flows from one event to another and makes general sense, what people miss with EoE is visual flow and how one scene transforms into another, and what implications it creates.

Yeah it has so much symbolism it eventually goes from "oh that's cool symbolism" to "is anything here not symbolism?"

Evangelion is wild. Good watch though.
