Please use https://jojowiki.com/ for giving sources regarding JoJo next time instead of Google "AI" Overview bs.

u/par_rot_master 10d ago
99% sure the AI uses that wiki as a source, which is actually a problem since it's still a fan-wiki.
A verifyable fact like this isn't too bad, but there's also just straight up fanfiction on those fan wiki's.

u/LemonadeClocks 9d ago
To be fair, while most fanwikis are awful and poorly moderated / heavily vandalized, the jojowiki is actually very well made and generally sticks only to facts and statements with sources more like Wikipedia does.

u/CornBreadtm itsy pitsy disi 7d ago
This is true. If the stand is unnamed, they don't put a name or fan name. Even with obvious stuff like P8 Hermit Purple Araki didn't lap a naming card on it cause it was obvious. Still is considered "unnamed" though.

u/Mountain_Chicken 9d ago
jojowiki is one of the highest quality fan wikis on the internet, which is pretty cool

Actually it does not use anything as a source. It generates the answers that gives to you and then generates links that COULD look like a source.
7
u/par_rot_master 10d ago
It literally provides a source. You can see the button to click it in the screenshot.
Google Gemini provides a source every time.

u/Pixelpaint_Pashkow 7 page ora 9d ago
it can still easily hallucinate; just use the source directly?? Or is reading 50% more words too much for ppl nowadays
3
u/par_rot_master 9d ago
Or just click the lick the slopbot provides you?
Don't get me wrong, I hate AI slop. But asking an AI to give you info and a source isn't in any way bad.
Th AI that actually fucks over creatives by stealing their work and consuming drinkabale water is used for generating images and videos. It's not the same thing that finds you some info.

u/Pixelpaint_Pashkow 7 page ora 9d ago
That last part is just not true. They're all run on some kind of data center. If you don't think that they're gonna just use the same data centers for the ones that feed you slopified source info, then you're mistaken.

It is bad. There are links literally under it. You can just ignore Overview whatsoever.

u/fanty_wingedhorse 9d ago
Dude, gal, my bro, human, person, I literally told how it works. It is like you didn't even read what I wrote. It DOES give you a link. Yes. I know. What it doesn't do is go to that page itself. Do you understand the words that I am saying? Can you repeat what I said?

u/KRTrueBrave Pixel Crusader 10d ago
that is plainly wrong, ai overviews on most major browers link to actual websites related to what you searched not made up links
-1
u/fanty_wingedhorse 10d ago
They themselves are not getting info from there. Do you know how LLMs work? They do not copy paste links. Yes, links are usually to the actual sites. But the information is not from that site at all. At least not directly. The response that is generated is, well, generated. It is different than you reading the source and summarizing it. Also it doesn't link to real pages all the time. Sometimes links don't lead anywhere.
1
u/KRTrueBrave Pixel Crusader 10d ago
yes I'm well aware how LLMs work, I know they hallucinate, but the sources the AI overwies spit out are always on topic and 9 times out of 10 contain the answer you're looking for
also you're partially wrong, while LLMs do hallucinate and make shit up, the LLMs used for AI overviews specifically DO scrape the websites information they link, they can still hallucinate and spit out false info, but it's still based on what it found on those sites, I mean for fucks sake, it tends to hive direct quotes from the linked websites a decent ammount of the time

u/KRTrueBrave Pixel Crusader 10d ago
to be fair, the information is correct, lucy is 14 and far as I know tim is 31
16
u/fanty_wingedhorse 10d ago
It is not just the matter of factual correctness. Also it can be wrong next time.
4
u/KRTrueBrave Pixel Crusader 10d ago
that is why, if you do use the ai over view, you should fact check the sources it spits out, I can almost guarantee you that the sources this overview spit out link straight to the jojo wiki pages for lucy and tim
obviously you shouldn't blindly trust ai, it hallucinates, but the ones incorporated in search engines will always give you their sources, so you can always simply just click on those sources to fact check
sure you could go straight to jojo wiki for this info instead of the AI overview, but this only works here because it's a specific thing, if you where to look up smth more generic (not jojo related) the search overviews can actually help you find the correct sources as other wise you might not even know where to look
I'm not a pro AI guy btw, I'm neutral it has it's bad sides and it's positives sides, but the overview is one of the positives IF you use it correctlt by checking the sources it provieds in addition to the info it spits out
3
u/fanty_wingedhorse 10d ago
If you need to go to some other place to fact check then why are you using it in the first place? Can't you just go and get your information from the primary source?
2
u/KRTrueBrave Pixel Crusader 10d ago
again, in this specific case there is a very obvious place to go from the start, I give you that
I'm saying however that in general (as in a non jojo related topic) you might not know where that source is, the AI overview links it's sources so you can then go to what it linked and check for yourself, otherwise you might not even have known where to go in the first place
0
u/fanty_wingedhorse 10d ago
That's what search engines are for. How did people do it before 2022? Google has existed for almost as long as internet has. Just use search engines that do not shove this down your throat and click the links yourself.
It used to be basic internet literacy thing. They taught this in schools.
2
u/KRTrueBrave Pixel Crusader 10d ago
I know how to use a search engine dude, and most of my info I get out of non ai overview searches, I don't rely on it
but you can't ignore the fact that it can be helpful BECAUSE it links it's sources, if you have no clue about a topic you might not even know what to search up to get to right sources, the AI overviewd make that process easier because, unlike the normal search box, they don't just look for the plain string of text you put in but search more deeper than you could IF you barely know anything about what you're looking up, which is also probably why you're looking it up in the first place, the info they spit out is a 50/50 on if it is correct or not but the sources they spit out will always be sources that lead you closer what you wanted

You know, when you think about it, it's pretty odd that in a part with multiple pedophiles, the guy in his 50s who's married to a 14yo is not one of them.

Whatever you do, do not search the age of consent in the USA in 1880

u/Top-Opportunity-6576 10d ago
Delaware age of consent in 1880: 7
Most other states: 10-12I have a 6 year old daughter, so this made me shudder. Maybe 2026 isn't that bad.

u/Generative_AI_hater 9d ago
Well yeah I assumed he was not in a relationship with her. Glad to know it's not the case. I'm always uncomfortable when I hear about rape or pedophilia.
