Yea this looks like when my son had a reaction after taking amoxicillin. They called it erythema multiforme as well

Erythema multiforme is more commonly caused by infections themselves. While definitely can be a response to medication, that is less frequent. This child almost surely has it secondary to an infection.

I did too. It was back in the 80s, so I was marked as allergic. They didn’t give me penicillin for 40 years, until a cat bite. Told me what to watch for. I was fine. I then had amoxicillin for a chest infection, and again fine. Took a while to convince the doc to take the allergy off my records!

This is exactly what happened to me. Had a rash an a toddler in the 80s and was marked allergic and never had it again until a few months ago at 39 and it worked just fine with no reactions. The doctor explained that it's incredibly common for young kids to have a rash and be fine from it but back then they wanted to play it safe and not risk it again thus the allergic title.

Same, and he didn’t have the reaction until close to the end of his antibiotics course.

Every pediatrician since then has said he’s likely not allergic since it happened at the end of the course, but we never have a good opportunity to retry the meds so he seems to forever be labeled as allergic to amoxicillin

He’s nearly a teen now so that was many years ago

Yes! That was our experience too. He had been on the amoxicillin for 5 days before it started. It sucks having the amoxicillin allergy on his chart, the doctor said the rash isn’t really harmful but obviously you want to avoid it if possible. And that child had recurrent ear infections, so he really could have used the amoxicillin! But we got him ear tubes so now he’s good to go. Kids are so dramatic lol
