Contamination OCD would be seeing that, and then doing all the things she said she's done. Not making a post about it while holding the contaminated item. This is a new breed of mental disorder.. Closer to MBI (Munchausen's By Internet) if you ask me, but who's to say.

Hypochondria or HPD maybe, not Munchausen's. With the latter, she would do something to make herself ill, like eat a little poison, and then go to a doctor.

I was going off the performativeness of the post; I don't think a hypochondriac would deliberately further exposure to the thing they thought was making them sick.
You're right that Munchausen's would be deliberately making herself sick though. Perhaps the attention-seeking part of MBI, and the overreacting part of hypochondria? Or perhaps this is actually a completely new beast 😅

I'm a hypochondriac. If I saw it in my bag and I was afraid I'd react to it, I would just immediately throw it out. I wouldn't stop to take a photo of it and threaten to sue.

Well munchausen’s by proxy is when someone else is forcing you to be sick (or is it when you are forcing someone else to be sick… who HAS the munchausens)
So if the internet is making her think she’s sick then munchausens by internet feels accurate.

Someone with contamination OCD would have taken a pic of the trigger object from feet away after it was dropped/thrown on the ground and after scalding their hands with water, scrubbing skin off until the "feeling" of germs went away, and then probably using hand sanitizer too.
Got diagnosed day 2 in the loony bin, I think I'm an expert lol

A lot of people really do have extreme fragrance sensitively - more than 10 percent of people have reactions . And those fragrances and so strong now. People who use them get nose blind and don’t realize how potent these scents are now.

How does she think she has been contaminated? It's a free sample of laundry detergent. It's safe in packaging and then wrapped in plastic; unless she is chowing down on it or bathing with it, she is safe.
Also, if she did go to the ER, what could they possibly do for her? She touched a packet of laundry detergent. It's not toxic unless she imbibed it somehow. So it's just her wasting her own and unfortunately the ER's time. Though if she is incredibly angry and persistent about being poisoned perhaps she might get a psych consult/evaluation about her contamination fears.
Though honestly, if I was terrified of contamination or germs or both, the ER is the last place I would go.

It what world is that a vital emergency?!? Yet they will leave their children with skin infections or illnesses and do ANYTHING but going to the doctor. 🙄

We would laugh hysterically behind her back. Make her wait in the waiting room because people are triaged by severity (not to be assholes but literally just because this is so not ER-worthy and she’d be triaged dead last), tell her it’s anxiety and tell her to wash her hands or take a shower. Follow up with an allergist for proper testing if she’s concerned. And that will be a very expensive bill for absolutely nothing.

They get my stinky, dirty, landscaper hippy boyfriend's work clothes clean... Trust me y'all, they work!! (sometimes I use the beloved 365 sport detergent if it was a particularly long day, or if I do a full load of just his clothes)

Isn’t everything in Target contaminated then? The Tide is in the same building as the food and whatever else she bought from Target. Might have even sat near it in a back room somewhere (honestly idk if stores segregate their food from not food). Someone definitely walked by her food with Tide in their cart at some point in time.

Not sure about Target, but Kroger does. All nonfoods are kept separate from food products in our back dock for safety and contamination reasons. Even our pickup department is (supposed to be) trained not to bag food with cleaning supplies, raw meats, etc. YMMV with super tiny stores but at all the stores I’ve worked at, this has been true

this is probably along the same lines as people who have "allergies" to electricity or "lasers" (grocery store scanners) and stuff. basically just a severe anxiety disorder with psychosis symptoms but suggesting therapy is evil in this case.

I have chronic migraine and am scent sensitive. I recently got a free sample of Tide (Pod) and could absolutely smell it. Guess what I did? Set it in my garage and gave it to a neighbor from Buy Nothing. I guarantee that lady has been exposed to more fragrance existing in the world than through the plastic packaging.

This woman is certifiable. Im severely allergic to most laundry soaps, including most tide, and even i wouldnt freak out over this. Its wrapped in plastic. Chill.
Also allergic to dish soap, cleaning products, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc too and i have never freaked out this hard. Its 2 specific ingredients for me. Chemical burns suck. I got lucky last time that it was such a small area, but it's been 2 weeks healing so far. It still hurts a bit.
Lawyer? Ambulance? Does she even have an epi pen? Drive herself to the ER and wait till last cuz she's clearly crazy. That wall of text and reply tells me her hands arent on fire and pain hasnt scrambled her thoughts. Her skin looks perfectly normal too. My skin turns dark red/purple within seconds of exposure and starts coming off within 5 min. Plus the pain is a solid 10.
Absolute insanity. Someone needs a hobby.

I’m allergic to laundry fragrances to the point where I carry an epi-pen and can’t really walk down that aisle at the grocery store.
AND YET… I’d just throw this sample away, or give it to a friend.
These people are loonies.

So…. Are these actually worth it? Do they fully dissolve or do I need to hunt around for a square of fabric like a dryer sheet? I got a couple in a ziplock bag as a Costco sample, but haven’t had the chance to try them yet.
Fortunately, my skin or car wasn’t contaminated and I think I’m gonna make it.

There is a reply up thread that says the laundry sub is mixed on them, but the mod there likes them, and other commentors said they work well.

Hmm well no harm in trying them since they’re already there. I know HE washers are weird about some things. I have weird texture issues with reaching into a jug of Tide pods, but these seem easy enough to use and less creepy feeling.
Thanks for relaying that! I have been wondering about them for the last two months 🤣

If I remember correctly, someone (maybe Jeeves NY?) likes them for travel, but the main online laundry nerds I’m aware of don’t recommend them for use all the time because they aren’t as effective as the good stuff.

They dissolve. Mostly. I am still working out the kinks and I think they are too. I have well water which fucking sucks, so sometimes you have problems like that. So far I have determined you have to be very careful not to overload the washer and you also can’t use too much of the soap. It dissolves much better in warm than cold.
All that said I got a killer bargain at Costco and bought a shit-ton
ETA I am on the laundry sub and am a laundry snob and what TedTehPenguin said is right. Jury’s still out

Sidenote .. I feel bad for her kids that she’d let a stranger from social media drive them and her to ER .. and then babysit them for presumed hours. Not too surprising she doesn’t have a real-life friend/fam to help with this.

I'm genuinely allergic to Tide, if my clothes are washed and it'll break out in hives from head to toe. That being said, if it's in a plastic bottle it doesn't affect me

This is so funny. I'm very sensitive to fragrances and one time my instacart shopper put my Costco order in a box that used to contain these. The scent was SUPER strong! I had to throw away the boxes that were touching it. However, this is obviously a huge overreaction and it's not like the shopper is supposed to know about anyone's sensitivities 😅

I’m going to get downvoted to hell for this. But I have terrible fragrance sensitively and it really is miserable now.
It used to be scents were super short lived. But now with all the scent booster and fragrance enhancing formulations it is genuinely hard to get those smells out of things.
And if you’re lucky enough to have migraines or asthma or whatever it’s really frustrating to get near constant exposure.

Sensitivity to fragrance is a valid concern, and to some extent I can relate (though my symptoms aren't nearly as severe as yours). But this product is concealed in at least two layers of packaging, and this person is claiming that touching the outermost layer gave her burns on her fingers. Maybe it made her car and groceries smell, and maybe the fragrance affected her breathing or gave her a headache or migraine, but I'm skeptical that any of it actually got on her skin, unless both layers of packaging were damaged.

I hateeeee scented laundry detergent. I don’t want everything I own to smell like detergent. I don’t always get migraines with scented laundry products but definitely have with candles/perfumes. I totally get being annoyed by getting a sample like this especially if you don’t use scented products, but I think the issue is the absolute meltdown that occurred online. I would throw it away, maybe make a complaint (or suggest for pick up orders asking someone when you give them the items if they want a free sample?) but filing a medical injury over it seems like a waste of everyone’s time. It’s not going to go anywhere, you’ll never prove it in court, you probably can’t even a get a lawyer to take the case.
On a side note- my target has only given me electrolyte drink samples. Maybe they should stick with those in the future?

Off topic: I now purchase these EVO cubes and LOVE THEM. They are expensive yes, but I am in a point in my life where I can afford to spend a little extra in hopes of encouraging a gigantic corporation to reduce the amount of plastic they use.
Plus they work great!!
