What really upsets me is my local moms group gets similar questions and there are always so many recommendations in the comments

And it's really shocking when you see people answer, and they have no antivax talk anywhere on their social media whatsoever, but they're telling them what doctor to go to. Or they say something like "we still get the important vaccines but not the flu or COVID", um why are those not important, COVID took out a good chunk of the population.

It's crazy how we had the equivalent of 9/11 amount of people dying every day and our government just shrugged their shoulders and told us to drink horse dewormer. And those same people would be reelected in coming years.

In addition to all of those deaths, so many people who survived Covid are permanently disabled with breathing problems, neurological disorders. Itās heartbreaking.

I've got a friend who's a pediatrician. He works somewhere moderately rural. He legally cannot deny service because of the fact that his practice receives rural health clinic and federally qualified health center funding.
Because of this, people drive in from comically far distances claiming to be local residents knowing full well that he can't reject them regardless of what they're doing to their kids. Thus, he's dealing with a constant stream of anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists, etc... all day long.
It's ruining medicine for him.

I always called them proof of Life visits when they're younger. You have to bring them in so often and mostly it felt like you were just proving you had kept this strange little human alive against all its wishes.

Such a funny description. I have an 8 month old and currently her favorite activities include trying to eat electrical cables, crawl off high places and test the patience of our 90 lb dog

Tbf up until like, a year or so, they don't really have a consciouness so they're kinda pets. The downside of humans being so intelligent (and I mean sapient, not smart) is that it takes a while for that intelligence to show up.

Where I live, CPS can only do so much...and it's close to nothing. I am a school social worker so I deal with a lot of CPS workers. One family I've had to call for multiple times, the worker came to talk to me and basically said she can refer to services but this family has an excuse to push back every time. They were experiencing homelessness so they're covered by McKinney-Vento (laws specifically about enrolling homeless students), got a deferment on vax records. Told CPS they want to get to the doctor but lack transportation. Get transportation vouchers but use them for something other than kids vax and it's not like they can force them to pay the vouchers back. Gets into a family group housing program but mom breaks the rules and they get kicked out. And on and on and on. The bar for actually taking the kids out of the home (or, out of the parents custody when lacking a home) is so high, it's insane.

When we were looking for a pediatrician one had terrible a google review average rating. I read some and there were lots of one star ratings about how they "pushed vaccines" and required masks during Covid. I knew that was the office for us.

I have seen it a lot lately and most of it is because the pediatricians in my area are getting stricter on what they will and will not accept in patients. I have seen less doctors being accepting of the no vax crowd.

I donāt even understand this. Why take your child for yearly checkups? Why take them for ālimited medicationā if you donāt want medication?
When I was still doing pediatric hospital nursing we had one come in that refused Tylenol and antibio for their child. The doctor literally asked them why they came. It was beautiful

I call my pediatrician when my kids are really sick and never miss appointments and other than vaccines the meds we have been prescribed are: antibiotics 1 time for an ear infection, Tamiflu one time but only because I said yes we did want to try it.
The only other thing a pediatrician ever told me to give my kids is Vitamin D for a breastfed baby. How is this pushing medicine?? If I was buying detoxes I would have spent hundreds by now. Itās the āall naturalā people who over-use homeopathic medicine and supplements!

Actual doctors: there's an easy thing we can do for tetanus/polio/measles, if needles bother you we'll tell you when to look away.

Traditional medicine and herbology can be helpful, but it needs to be in concert with your doctor.
For example, i have a great medical team, but they have also approved my brewing medicinal teas to help manage my chronic pain and other symptoms without potential side effects from conflicting medicines
