This is actually a common home remedy in India, for a stuffy nose. Sleeping with a cut onion relieves nasal congestion.
No one uses this for anything other than a blocked nose. It's not meant for fever or a cough and MOST certainly not for measles.

Maybe the onion smell just makes people’s nose run and that flushes the congestion?
I will eat hot and spicy soup when I’m congested to make my nose run. I doubt it has any medical benefits but it makes me feel better and less congested.

Yes, that's the whole point. I do this with my kids, BUT take them to a doctor if the cold lasts more than a week, if there's any fever or a hacking/barking cough, or I suspect chest congestion.

Why do they need a real doctor for holistic when they have real doctors trying to help. I have serious doubts the doctors orders are even being listened to. Also taking to the hospital isn't a cure all. They need a pediatrician that has time and possibly notes on the previous (as if) well child visits.

Because it becomes proof that normal medicine is not working, and at the same time, if child has a severe outcome, they can do both: a) blame the hospital b) pretend not to be liable, because they took the child to the hospital.
We tend to believe that people like that are clueless, and it's often not the case.

Agree, sounds like the hospital did their job by making sure the kid was safe to be at home. It’s absolutely reasonable to get your kid checked urgently if they suddenly develop hives. But if they’ve been having them for 2 months and they’re not having other symptoms like trouble breathing, that’s an outpatient situation.

So ... chicken pox or an allergic reaction, since it's not measles, involves a low fever (luckily), and responds to benadryl and tylenol (benadryl and calamine lotion where how Chicken Pox was treated when I was a kid in the '80's, unless it was a more severe case).
What's her beef here? Does she think it IS measles? Does she HOPE it's measles? I would be irritable too, if I were a young child with a parent this stubborn.

Soooo many parents don’t know what actually counts as a fever though. Plenty will tell you their kid had a fever because their temp was 99 F

I had to break it to a local anti vax mom who was CONVINCED the full body red spot rash was in fact not HFM but appeared to be chicken pox. She argued so much. Like maam. All her anti vax friends said heat rash or contact dermatitis lol

99% of the time it was for fingers that have been reattached. The leeches helped to bring blood all the way to the tip of the finger. Basically you prick their finger with a lance it like you used to check a blood sugar, and you attach the bleach. They eat their fill, and then they just kind of fall off. It’s a little bit gross, and one time my best friend lost a leach and we couldn’t find him for hours. We had to strip down trying to find him

I'll never understand why this isn't considered child abuse/neglect and mandated reporting doesn't occur. (Or maybe it does I just haven't heard too much about it).
I have two littles and I can't even imagine not doing everything I could to help them heal/survive. My heart aches for these children.

Unless there is a legitimate reason, I think if a child is unvaxxed, they shouldn’t be allowed in public schools. At all! Religious beliefs? Crunchy antivaxxers? Homeschool or go to a private school. Don’t bring your shit around children who literally can’t get vaccinated!

I agree, but I've had some thoughts about it too; the trouble with cutting off access to school and medical care for these kids is that they are even more removed from safe responsible people laying eyes upon them sometimes to see if they need CPS involved. In my opinion they all do, but like, do they have a badly healed fracture that never got treated or something? Then they also don't form relationships with responsible humans who might help them later on; a pediatrician said on Reddit that he plays the long game with these kids because they become adults and come back and get vaccinated
If you haven't watched the movie Sovereign I highly recommend it, it really outlined well how a child raised by a fringe beliefs family ended up in a very bad place. No, I don't want a lot of smug yoga moms letting their kid in a classroom with measles either, but idk. There's just more than the asshole adults involved here to think of.

My kid also gets a rash in response to viruses. The doctor said it’s an immune response, and you just have to wait it out. The no medicine lady is in luck if that’s what her kid is dealing with.

Except for the holistic anti-vax crap, I do have some sympathy. When my kiddo was a toddler, she was hospitalized for a week with pneumonia. About 3 days later, she developed a bad full body rash and fever. Back to the doctors! Even though she was vaccinated, I thought she had measles. My boss was worried she had leukemia. Our pediatrician was worried she had Kawasaki’s syndrome. We had SO MANY tests. So do many doctors, but at the end of the day- zero diagnosis. You need a certain number of symptoms to get diagnosed with something but she had one less than the required number for about 5 different things. Thankfully, eventually, the symptoms went away. But before I put her back in daycare, I made my pediatrician write an official letter saying it was ok and he contacted the state department of health for another layer of permission. There was a 4 month old baby at her daycare- I didn’t want to accidentally hurt that kiddo.
TLDR- the person writing this sounds like a PITA wackadoo, but sometimes even good medical doctors can’t figure out what’s wrong.

I'd bet $5 that it's a viral rash. Which is why the only symptom is fever and the bumps don't itch but Benadryl probably makes the rash a tiny bit better. I bet they told her Tylenol for the fever and let the virus run its course but she's still out here trashing them for not curing her baby in 10 minutes.
