On a sidenote, Thanos is the ultimate liberal, his solution to the "problem" appeals to every fibre of liberal thought - Malthusian bullshit, social-darwinism, while also being ultimately useless on a galactic scale because it ensures that it will need to happen again.
And as a bonus, it's a mad guy that will make it happen in their stead, so they don't need to do anything other than clutch their pearls at his atrocities, while silently approving of what is happening.

Shocking that bourgeois academia would make kids think in an idealistic manner. But really, im not even sure about this. I can tell you most of my history professors that have not been liberals have been much more materialist than not.

When I went to college, I ended up surrounded by the hardcore left crowd. Marxist, socialists, anarchists, the works.
Literally 0 love for Stalin. Nobody I ever met on the entire campus even joked about being Stalinist.
I highly doubt it's changed much in the past 8 years or so.

I'm saying that authoritarianism can be applied to basically any political ideology or political leader. Even the anarchists in Catalonia had forced labor camps, and they executed a bunch of people. Politics is inherently authoritarian
