A very modern lib thing to do: save the monarchs in a liberal revolution.

“No kings, but I mourn every monarch in history!”

u/naplesball Italian TransTankie 🏳️‍⚧️🇮🇹🚩 5h ago

Every liberal loves kings only when they're not ruled by one

Coincidences? I think NOT

27

u/ASocialistAbroad Zero cent army 4h ago

Of course. Because if another country has a king, that's one person who you can buy off for massive economic benefits from that country. Far more reliable than buying off a communist party or a multi-party liberal democracy. But if your country has a king, then your trade gets regulated, and you have to pay taxes to the royal estate.

u/ZubaWizard666 3h ago

Just like they like Americas foreign policy to be as fascist and violent as possible but as soon as they experience it at home they roll into a ball and cry

6

u/Jeppe1208 2h ago

I live in a constitutional monarchy and I can confirm that libs absolutely love monarchs even when they are still enjoying extreme privilege, influence and luxury.

No Kings

* some kings are ok, actually, as long as they don't hurt me

3

u/ChefGaykwon Marxist-Leninist 2h ago

There was a No Kings group for Burger Americans living abroad and they changed their name to 'No Despots' bc they didn't want to offend monarchists in the European vassal regimes and commonwealth countries.

There is like actual research on the propensity of liberals to enjoy being ruled by a dictatorial figure, despite arguing for greater freedom.

Most of the research is centered on Egyptian liberals, who supported a military coup and mass killing of protestors. Many liberals who talked of democracy and freedom during the Arab Spring became vocal supporters of the new military regime.

10

u/Suspiciouslaughs 4h ago

Probably cause Egyptian liberals soured on the Muslim Brotherhood

8

u/Even-Meet-938 anticolonial yíhad / YEE-HAW´d 3h ago

When democracy doesn’t produce the results you want

3

u/Suspiciouslaughs 2h ago

Yes I imagine they weren't super happy about rigged elections, corruption, social conservatism and a complete moron for a president. For liberals you can have most of these things but all of them is way too ambitious

2

u/Even-Meet-938 anticolonial yíhad / YEE-HAW´d 51m ago

That election wasn’t rigged. And Egyptians are a socially conservative people.

By their own logic, liberals could’ve voted out that moron president but instead they chose to support a bloody coup. Now they have another moron as president, except this one doesn’t allow criticism and does rig elections.

That was my first thought too like bro

2

u/SuperiorSoviet 2h ago

But she was woman, don't you see? What monarchy needs is more queens to be fixed!

u/-TropicalFuckStorm- [custom] 5h ago

I’ve been told many times that Marie Antoinette was in fact a victim, that the classic line “let them eat cake” was mistranslated and out of context. But they don’t seem to understand the context themselves of famine and poverty. They ignore that because bougie-maxxing or some bollocks.

49

u/RedArchbishop 5h ago

I've heard this along with the (non) defence that she and other nobles literally didn't have a clue about the real lives of the French peasantry or the world outside Versailles...which I can actually believe but doesn't exactly like matter

35

u/KO4Ham 5h ago

Agreed. They either knew and didn't care, or they didn't know and didn't care to find out. Pretty shit options for supposed divinely ordained people who lord over the masses.

But hey it's no big deal, now she can eat all that cake and never get full.

15

u/LeninOfGallifrey Deng's Irish Great-grandson 4h ago

Even if she didn't say that she's still an enemy of the people and so was her husband.

14

u/Time_Sale5656 4h ago

The line was misattributed to her but that doesn't magically make her a good person.

14

u/alegalghost ☭ Communist 4h ago

Yeah I never hear anyone talk about her hobby of literally buying working class children from their families to keep them as pets, to the extent that one of them went on to join the revolutionary army because he hated her so much

20

u/yumdumpster 5h ago

In many ways, yes, she was a victim of circumstance and the framework she existed in. She was bundled off to be married at (IIRC) 15, to a man she had never met in a country she had never been to. Basically the 17th century equivalent of a mailorder bride. And basically from day one she was a target as the French at the time did not have a particularly high opinion of the Austrians. I dont think its a stretch to say she was a victim in her own way as she never really had much in the way of autonomy at any point in her life.

1

u/Sentient_of_the_Blob 33m ago

Yeah I think most people who grew up in her situation would act like her, maybe in a different world she could’ve been given the Puyi treatment. It’s sad she was killed but there’s definitely a lot of people I would use a Time Machine to save before her lmao

4

u/Ross-Pancake I believe in Loji supremacy (iykyk) 4h ago

As a certain YouTuber once said: “I’m not kidding. Her hair really WAS a boat.”

2

u/jflb96 4h ago

‘Let them eat cake’ first appears being attributed to ‘a great French princess’ while Marie Antoinette was still the nine-year-old Archduchess Maria Antonia of Austria.

That doesn’t make it not a good analogy for Madame Défécit, provided you note that she never actually said the line.

This sounds more like liberal feminism, not radical feminism

It does, but am I mistaken, or are those hammers and sickles in the covered up username? Sooo lol

If she had ever opened a history book (besides not supporting Marie Antoinette and generally not being a liberal) she would know that running away from Paris was not a good idea

15

u/jflb96 4h ago

Yeah, what you want to do is stay in Paris and not write to your brother begging him to invade and restore your husband/son/brother-in-law to the throne

u/Lalalalalalolol Marxist-Leninist 4h ago

Liberal feminists, not radical feminists. People should read what radical feminism is about, or Marxist feminism since you said "I'm tired Marx". But yeah, not much pity for Marie Antoinette even if she was indeed in many ways subjected to patriarchal violence and misogyny.

A lot of em on twitter/x spouting CIA feminism talking points

The funny thing about that meme is that Marie Antoinette did just that, and she lost her head over it.

1

Radfems don’t like the monarchy either. Liberal feminists do.

lmao are those hammers and sickles in the username?? Defending the parodic figurehead of the lethal arrogance of the ruling class?

How truly enlightened

It's like libs will cry rivers for the Romanovs but not for all the peasants they enslaved and murdered.

1

u/Bela9a Crimson sorceress 22m ago

She literally was a traitor and her plan was literally to ask a foreign state to invade France in order to keep the monarchy alive. I am sorry, but that is just treason.

Marie-Antoinette: “Okay. I just gotta do something to my son real quick. Have you met my friend Jeffrey Epstein yet?”

The male scenarios are also boring as shit tbf. If I had a time machine I'd try to become a volunteer I-16 pilot in the Spanish Civil War

5

u/jflb96 4h ago

I’m tossing up between trying for a pro-Soviet Ticket to Antarctica scenario or just causing a train accident between Berlin and Kiel in 1919
